Meezan Bank Migrates 7.5 Million Cards to BPC SmartVista as Pakistan's Digital Payments Surge
By Lauren Towner · 15 October 2026

Meezan Bank has migrated its entire payments infrastructure to BPC’s SmartVista platform, a move that modernises the handling of 7.5 million active cards and peak transaction volumes exceeding 1,500 per second. For fintech professionals, this represents a significant overhaul of Pakistan's Islamic banking landscape, prioritising scalability and security in a rapidly digitising market.
What was announced
Meezan Bank has finalised the end-to-end migration of its payments business to BPC’s SmartVista platform. This transition encompasses the bank’s entire payments processing environment, including its portfolio of 7.5 million active cards and its merchant acquiring business across POS, e-commerce, and QR channels. The new infrastructure is designed to handle high-intensity demand, with the capacity to support peak transaction volumes exceeding 1,500 transactions per second.
The modernisation project integrates several critical functions into a unified foundation, including payment gateway services, fraud management, and instant payments. Currently, Meezan Bank processes approximately 2 million Raast transactions daily, supported by an acceptance network of more than 100,000 QR codes throughout Pakistan. By moving to the SmartVista platform, the bank aims to enhance the scalability and security of its digital services while maintaining operational resilience. The migration was completed with a focus on continuity, ensuring that services for customers and merchants remained stable throughout the transformation process. This shift provides the bank with a modernised environment to manage its expanding digital footprint in the Pakistani market.
"This end-to-end payments migration is a major step in strengthening Meezan Bank’s digital payments infrastructure for the next phase of growth. We now have a modern platform that supports scale, security and innovation across our channels. The successful completion of this programme demonstrates that large-scale payments modernisation can be delivered with continuity, control and long-term value for our customers, merchants and the Bank."

The companies involved
Meezan Bank holds a prominent position in the Pakistani financial sector as the country’s first and largest Islamic bank. It operates as a full-service bank offering a range of Shariah-compliant banking products and services. The institution has been a focal point for the growth of Islamic finance in the region, focusing on digital transformation to serve its massive customer base and merchant network.
BPC is a global payments technology provider known for its SmartVista platform, which handles various aspects of the payment lifecycle, from switching and processing to card management and fraud prevention. BPC’s presence in the South Asian market is well-established, with the company frequently providing the underlying technology for high-volume payment environments. With 60 previous reports on BPC’s activities, the firm is a recurring figure in the global fintech landscape, particularly in regions undergoing rapid transitions from cash-heavy to digital-first economies.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has followed BPC’s expansion across the Asia-Pacific and South Asian regions closely. Recently, the publication covered how BRED Bank Fiji Modernises Payments with BPC SmartVista Cloud Migration, highlighting the platform's role in remote market digital shifts. The company’s technical standing was further noted when BPC Wins Top Honors at Asian Banking & Finance FinTech Awards for Global Infrastructure.
In South Asia specifically, BPC has been active in multi-lingual and inclusive finance projects, such as when BPC and DFCC Bank Launch Sri Lanka’s First 8-Language Multilingual ATM Network. Additionally, the firm’s work in the region includes a partnership with Pubali Bank Set to Advance Bangladesh’s Digital Payments and Financial Inclusion with SmartVista Card Management Platform, which mirrored the scale of the current Meezan Bank migration.
What this means
This migration signals that the era of "good enough" legacy infrastructure in Pakistan is ending. For a bank of Meezan’s scale to shift 7.5 million cards onto BPC’s platform suggests that the internal costs and risks of maintaining bespoke legacy systems are becoming untenable. This puts immediate pressure on other Tier 1 banks in the region to prove their systems can handle the 1,500+ TPS benchmarks now being set. The focus on Raast integration also highlights that instant payment interoperability is no longer a luxury but a core requirement for market relevance. The industry must now ask whether domestic processing capabilities can keep pace with such rapid, large-scale digital adoption.
