BRED Bank Fiji has completed the migration of its entire Visa and private-label card portfolio to BPC’s cloud-based SmartVista platform. For fintech professionals, this represents a significant shift toward cloud-native infrastructure in the South Pacific, enabling faster product deployment and enhanced fraud protection in a region increasingly focused on digital payment modernisation and cross-border efficiency.

What was announced

The migration marks a major milestone in BRED Bank Fiji’s international payments modernisation strategy. By moving all active cards to the SmartVista issuing platform, the bank has transitioned from legacy systems to a scalable, cloud-based infrastructure. This follows a previous phase of the project which saw the modernisation of the bank’s acquiring services. The platform is designed to provide BRED Bank Fiji with the agility to launch new card programmes more rapidly while ensuring consistency and security across its payment services.

The new platform is designed to support a wide array of transaction types, including domestic, cross-border, and e-commerce payments. For merchants, the upgrade facilitates contactless and multi-currency acceptance, alongside features such as purchase with cash-out, pre-authorisation, and cash advances. It also streamlines back-office functions like multi-currency settlement and digital merchant onboarding. As part of the latest acquiring milestone, the bank will integrate its payment gateway into the platform to strengthen online processing and speed up the checkout experience.

Security is a central component of the update. BRED Bank Fiji has implemented BPC’s AI-powered SmartVista Fraud Management solution. This tool is tasked with protecting transactions across multiple channels, including ATMs, point-of-sale (POS) terminals, and e-commerce gateways. The project is part of a broader rollout by the parent BRED Group to standardise its international markets on the SmartVista platform. The next stages of the programme are set to introduce virtual cards, cardless withdrawals, and UPI card acceptance, while also launching new merchant portals.

"The successful migration in Fiji gives us a modern and scalable platform to strengthen card issuing, improve customer services and support our future growth,"

Pierre-Antoine Vallet, Deputy CEO and Chief Financial and Information Officer at BRED Bank Fiji.

The companies involved

BRED Bank Fiji is a key player in the South Pacific financial landscape, operating as part of the international BRED Group. The bank provides a range of retail and corporate banking services, positioning itself as a modern alternative in the Fijian market with a focus on digital-first solutions. Its parent group has been systematically upgrading its global infrastructure to ensure consistency across its diverse international footprint, leveraging modern technology to compete in emerging markets.

BPC is a global leader in payment solutions, known for its SmartVista suite which covers the entire payments ecosystem from card issuing and acquiring to switching, fraud management, and digital banking. The company has a significant presence in the Asia-Pacific region, where Georgy Rashin serves as the Head of Delivery APAC. BPC has built a reputation for helping both established Tier 1 banks and emerging fintechs transition to cloud-native environments. The company’s technology is frequently selected by institutions looking to replace rigid legacy systems with modular, API-ready platforms that can handle the demands of modern real-time payments and multi-currency settlements.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has tracked BPC’s global expansion extensively, with 59 stories covering their technological deployments. Recently, the company was recognised for its international impact when BPC Wins Top Honors at Asian Banking & Finance FinTech Awards for Global Infrastructure. In the APAC region, BPC has been active in diverse markets, including a partnership where BPC and DFCC Bank Launch Sri Lanka’s First 8-Language Multilingual ATM Network.

The SmartVista platform has also been a focal point for digital transformation in South Asia, as seen when Pubali Bank Set to Advance Bangladesh’s Digital Payments and Financial Inclusion with SmartVista Card Management Platform. Furthermore, BPC’s work in Europe recently reached a milestone when Banca Transilvania and BPC Deliver Romania’s First EU Digital Identity Wallet Payment, demonstrating the platform’s versatility in handling emerging regulatory and identity standards across different jurisdictions.

What this means

This migration highlights a critical trend in the Pacific banking sector: the move away from isolated, geography-specific legacy stacks toward unified, cloud-based platforms. For regional banks, the pressure to compete with global digital entrants is mounting, making the ability to launch virtual cards and contactless services a necessity rather than a luxury. By adopting a platform used across the wider BRED Group, the Fiji operation gains the economies of scale typically reserved for much larger markets. The industry should note that as AI-powered fraud management becomes standard in these migrations, the barrier to entry for secure, cross-border e-commerce in emerging markets is significantly lowered, potentially reshuffling merchant preferences and putting pressure on legacy providers who cannot offer similar real-time protection.
