BPC has secured two major accolades at the Asian Banking & Finance FinTech Awards, winning in the Financial Inclusion and Payment Solutions categories. For fintech professionals, this double win underscores the critical role of versatile infrastructure in bridging the gap between traditional banking institutions and the rapidly expanding micro-merchant economy across the Asia-Pacific region.

What was announced

BPC was recognised for two distinct implementations of its SmartVista platform, demonstrating the technology's application across different segments of the financial services market. In the Financial Inclusion category, the award focused on BPC’s collaboration with Hatton National Bank (HNB) in Sri Lanka. By deploying BPC’s flexible payments platform across its entire end-to-end payment stack, HNB was able to extend card services to an additional 3 million customers. The project also enabled debit cards on Google Wallet and established a scalable infrastructure designed to support digital-first propositions throughout the country.

In the Payment Solutions category, the recognition centered on BPC’s work in the Philippines with GCash. The partnership involved the delivery of a next-generation payments platform to power GCash PocketPay. This solution, built on the SmartVista architecture, allows NFC-enabled Android devices to function as contactless payment acceptance points. By removing the need for dedicated hardware, the initiative extended modern card acceptance to more than 6 million businesses, merchants, and social sellers within the GCash ecosystem. The implementation utilised BPC’s modular, cloud-ready architecture and open APIs to facilitate rapid integration and international scheme certification. This created a unified foundation capable of handling card, QR, and various other payment types through a phased rollout strategy.

"To be recognised among the best of the best by the Asian Banking & Finance FinTech Awards, across both Financial Inclusion and Payment Solutions, is something the BPC team and I are incredibly proud of particularly as those two categories represent very different sides of the business."

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed BPC’s expansion across diverse geographies and its focus on financial inclusion. In September 2026, we reported on how BPC and DFCC Bank Launch Sri Lanka’s First 8-Language Multilingual ATM Network, a move that mirrored the inclusion goals seen in the HNB project. The company’s work in the South Asian region was further highlighted when Pubali Bank Set to Advance Bangladesh’s Digital Payments and Financial Inclusion with SmartVista Card Management Platform. Beyond Asia, BPC has been active in the European market, as seen when Banca Transilvania and BPC Deliver Romania’s First EU Digital Identity Wallet Payment. Additionally, the company’s technical standing was validated when BPC Was Named “Luminary” Leader in Celent’s New Research on Retail Digital Banking Platforms in Latin America.

What this means

The dual recognition of BPC highlights a significant trend in the fintech sector: the convergence of high-end banking infrastructure with grassroots merchant enablement. The success of the GCash PocketPay initiative suggests that the era of expensive, proprietary Point-of-Sale (POS) hardware is facing intense pressure from software-based NFC solutions. For the industry, this moves the needle by proving that "financial inclusion" is no longer just a CSR goal but a viable commercial strategy when supported by modular, API-first stacks. Traditional hardware vendors may find themselves increasingly marginalised as micro-merchants opt for the lower entry barriers provided by SoftPOS technology. The primary question for the sector now is how quickly other emerging markets can replicate this shift from cash to contactless acceptance without the friction of legacy infrastructure.
