Pine Labs has launched a unified merchant platform in Singapore, integrating payment acceptance, acquiring, and instalment plans into a single stack. For fintech professionals, this move signals a shift toward vendor consolidation in Southeast Asia, enabling retailers to manage high-value transactions and customer loyalty through one technology partner rather than multiple siloed providers.

What was announced

The new platform is designed to streamline operations for Singaporean merchants by combining several traditionally separate functions. At its core, the system handles standard payment acceptance for global networks including American Express, Mastercard, and Visa, alongside alternative payment methods (APMs) such as GrabPay, AliPay+, and WeChat Pay. Beyond simple transactions, the platform incorporates acquiring services and integrated instalment payment plans (IPPs).

These IPPs are powered by an extensive network of bank and brand partners, allowing consumers to spread the cost of high-ticket items at the point of sale. By bringing these capabilities onto a unified technology layer, Pine Labs aims to help merchants reduce multi-vendor complexity and improve conversion rates for larger purchases. A key differentiator is the inclusion of Fave, Pine Labs’ consumer-facing engagement app. By embedding Fave’s rewards, cashback programs, and merchant-funded offers directly into the payment flow, businesses can automate customer acquisition and loyalty efforts.

The launch in Singapore follows a similar expansion into the Philippines, where Pine Labs recently introduced payment capabilities in partnership with the eWallet provider GCash. The company already maintains a significant footprint in Singapore, serving major brands such as FairPrice, CapitaLand, iStudio, and Courts. This rollout is part of a broader international strategy to deploy its "Commerce OS" across global geographies, addressing the merchant need for real-time, intelligent, and embedded commerce experiences.

"Singapore's merchants are increasingly looking to simplify payments infrastructure while offering consumers more flexibility at checkout. By bringing together acquiring, payment acceptance, instalment payments and consumer engagement capabilities on a single platform, we are helping merchants reduce complexity and unlock new avenues for growth."

The companies involved

Pine Labs is a global payments technology firm that positions itself as the architect of a "Commerce OS." The company’s infrastructure is designed to power digital commerce across a vast geographic range, including South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and the United States. Its platform serves as a bridge between financial institutions, enterprises, and consumers, offering a suite of solutions that covers online and in-store payments, credit, and issuing.

The company has expanded its reach through strategic acquisitions and product development, most notably with Fave. Fave operates as the consumer-facing arm of the ecosystem, providing a payments and loyalty app that helps businesses drive engagement through digital rewards and merchant-funded offers. Pine Labs’ technology stack combines payment orchestration with prepaid and stored value solutions, enabling businesses to move money and create customer value at scale. Currently operating in more than 20 markets, the firm has become a dominant player in the Asian fintech landscape, focusing on simplifying the movement of money for businesses of all sizes through integrated financial platforms.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely tracked Pine Labs’ aggressive expansion and product diversification over the last quarter. In late September 2024, the company announced it would deploy 1 million Soundboxes across India to accelerate digital payment adoption. This followed a significant technological leap where Pine Labs and Google Cloud launched AI-driven Agentic Commerce for small and medium businesses, aimed at automating complex commerce tasks.

The firm has also focused on long-term enterprise relationships, recently extending its strategic gift card technology partnership with Woolworths Group. These operational milestones have been supported by leadership changes, including the appointment of Jayaram Karthik as Chief Operations Officer earlier in September to manage the company's scaling operations.

What this means

The move toward a unified platform in Singapore highlights a broader industry trend: the death of the standalone payment terminal. As merchants face margin pressure and rising customer acquisition costs, they are increasingly rejecting fragmented "Frankenstein" stacks in favor of holistic ecosystems. By bundling acquiring with loyalty and BNPL-style instalments, Pine Labs is putting direct pressure on traditional banks and niche loyalty providers who cannot offer a single-contract solution. The success of this model will likely depend on how effectively the Fave integration converts one-time shoppers into repeat customers, a critical metric in the highly competitive and digitally mature Singaporean retail sector.
