Press Release: Stripe-Owned Privy Partners with Ripple to Bring Embedded Wallets to XRP Ledger | Featured Image by FF News

Stripe-owned Privy is integrating its embedded wallet infrastructure with the XRP Ledger (XRPL), allowing fintech developers to deploy non-custodial wallets without building the underlying architecture. This partnership bridges Stripe’s crypto ecosystem with Ripple’s ledger, specifically targeting stablecoin payments and automated commerce through the x402 protocol, simplifying how financial apps handle digital assets.

What was announced

On October 13, 2026, Privy announced a partnership with Ripple to bring its embedded wallet solution to the XRP Ledger. The integration allows developers to build apps where users can sign transactions and manage XRPL wallets directly within the interface, removing the need for external wallet connections. This model is specifically aimed at payments firms and fintechs looking to offer stablecoin services without requiring customers to manage their own private keys manually, though a key-export option remains available for users who wish to maintain full control.

The collaboration highlights the use of RLUSD, Ripple’s dollar-denominated stablecoin, within Privy’s infrastructure. Additionally, the partnership supports server-side wallets designed for autonomous agents. These agents can utilize x402, an open protocol developed by Coinbase that revives the HTTP 402 "Payment Required" status code to enable programmatic payments for APIs and online content without traditional account sessions. A server answers an unpaid request with a 402 response that carries the payment instructions, allowing machines to pay for services autonomously.

While the current integration focuses on wallet creation and transaction signing, Privy’s stated next step is adding policy controls and gas sponsorship. These features will eventually allow developers to set specific transaction rules and cover network fees on behalf of their users, though no date has been set for their release. The technical rollout is supported by a dedicated XRPL guide for developers. Neither company confirmed if Bridge-issued tokens will reach the XRPL through this integration.

The companies involved

Stripe, which acquired Privy in June 2025 for its embedded wallet technology, remains one of the most significant players in the global payments landscape. Since the acquisition, Privy has continued to operate as a distinct product under the leadership of co-founder and CEO Henri Stern, who also serves as Stripe’s head of crypto and stablecoins. Stripe has aggressively expanded its footprint in the digital asset space, recently acquiring the stablecoin infrastructure firm Bridge for $1.1 billion to bolster its internal stablecoin capabilities.

Ripple is a prominent provider of enterprise blockchain and crypto solutions, primarily known for its work with the XRP Ledger, a decentralized layer-1 blockchain designed for payments. Its RippleX division focuses on growing the XRPL ecosystem and fostering developer adoption. The company has recently focused on the launch and integration of RLUSD to compete in the growing stablecoin market. By partnering with Privy, Ripple gains access to a wallet infrastructure already utilized by major crypto firms such as Ramp, further embedding the XRPL into the broader fintech stack.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely tracked Ripple’s expanding influence in the stablecoin and cross-border payment sectors. We recently reported on how Ripple and Robinhood Partner to Integrate RLUSD Stablecoin and Automate Global Treasury Operations, as well as the company's efforts to Modernize Tokenized Trade Finance through an alliance with BNY. Additionally, the broader movement toward automated financial agents—a key component of the Privy announcement—was highlighted in our coverage of how t54 and RiskX Partner to Launch AI Agents. These developments underscore a period of intense activity for Ripple as it seeks to institutionalize the XRP Ledger.

What this means

This integration signals a significant shift toward the "invisible" crypto stack, where the complexities of blockchain are abstracted away from the end-user. By combining Stripe-owned wallet tech, Ripple’s ledger, and Coinbase’s payment standards, the industry is moving toward a unified infrastructure that challenges traditional payment rails. The focus on x402 and autonomous agents suggests that the next competitive frontier in fintech isn't just human-to-human payments, but machine-to-machine commerce. For Ripple, this provides a critical bridge to mainstream developers, while for Stripe, it cements its position as a primary gateway for stablecoin liquidity, regardless of the underlying ledger.
