Airtm and BVNK Partner to Launch Wallet-Native Payments Across Emerging Markets
By Effie Foxtrot · 30 October 2026

Airtm and BVNK have partnered to integrate wallet-native payments into emerging markets, leveraging the Stellar blockchain to facilitate real-world commerce. For fintech professionals, this represents a significant bridge between stablecoin infrastructure and last-mile financial networks, potentially solving long-standing friction in global commerce for underserved populations across the Global South.
What was announced
Announced at the Stellar Meridian Conference, the partnership centers on the launch of Airtm Connect. This new feature allows digital asset companies, starting with BVNK, to establish direct wallet connections with Airtm’s global user base. Through this integration, Airtm users can utilize funds held within their wallets to pay participating retailers enabled by BVNK’s infrastructure, while also creating new methods to fund and receive money.
The collaboration aims to provide a complete on-ramp-to-commerce flow for users in the Global South. By combining Airtm’s last-mile network with BVNK’s stablecoin payment infrastructure and global banking on-ramp connectivity, the companies intend to remove traditional barriers to mainstream commerce. The integration will utilize the Stellar blockchain, a high-speed, low-cost payment rail that was recently added to the BVNK platform.
Furthermore, as a Mastercard company, BVNK provides Airtm with access to the Mastercard Global Money Platform. This modular infrastructure layer facilitates money movement across fiat and stablecoin accounts while allowing Airtm to maintain direct customer relationships and avoid the complexity of integrating multiple providers. The partnership also expands Airtm’s infrastructure ecosystem, adding BVNK’s capabilities to its existing network of financial partners to offer diverse funding paths across various geographies. The official rollout and launch are scheduled for Q4 2026.
"BVNK has solved one of the hardest problems in fintech: reliable, compliant on-ramping at scale. At Airtm, we’ve spent the last decade building the destination layer for the global dollar economy. Together, we're closing the loop. The magic happens when users can fund it reliably and use it more easily in the real-world. That's what this partnership delivers. We're not just adding another integration. We're building the complete on-ramp-to-commerce flow that emerging market users have needed for years."

The companies involved
Airtm positions itself as a last-mile financial network specifically targeting the Global South. The company has spent a decade developing a destination layer for the global dollar economy, focusing on providing financial access to underserved markets where traditional banking rails often fail to provide efficient commerce solutions. Its strategy focuses on building a distributed network that offers users choice across various payment rails and providers.
BVNK is a stablecoin infrastructure provider that is now part of Mastercard. This corporate parentage has significantly elevated BVNK’s position in the market, allowing it to bridge the gap between traditional finance and digital assets with institutional-grade scale. BVNK provides the infrastructure backbone for stablecoin payments and on-ramp connectivity across global banking corridors. By operating under the Mastercard umbrella, BVNK facilitates access to the Mastercard Global Money Platform, a full-stack solution for fiat and stablecoin interoperability. This backing provides a level of scale and regulatory compliance that is critical for the adoption of digital asset payments in highly regulated corridors.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely followed the evolution of BVNK’s infrastructure and its integration into the broader Mastercard ecosystem. We previously covered how Mastercard and BVNK Launch Global Money Platform for Stablecoin and Fiat Interoperability, which laid the groundwork for the modular infrastructure Airtm is now utilizing. Earlier in the year, we reported on how BVNK Scales Mastercard-Backed Stablecoin Infrastructure with Stellar Integration, a technical milestone that is central to this new partnership. Additionally, we have noted the broader competitive landscape in emerging markets, including reports on CAB Payments Reports Record Q3 Total Income and £32.5B FX Volume Growth, highlighting the increasing volume of cross-border money movement in these regions. Most recently, we noted the initial details of this collaboration in Airtm and BVNK Partner to Launch Wallet-Native Payments Across Emerging Markets.
What this means
This partnership signals a shift in how stablecoins are viewed in emerging markets—moving from speculative assets or simple stores of value to functional commerce tools. By integrating directly with a last-mile network like Airtm, BVNK is testing whether stablecoin infrastructure can finally displace fragmented local payment methods. The move puts pressure on traditional remittance providers and local banks in the Global South, who may struggle to match the speed and cost-efficiency of Stellar-based rails. However, the Q4 2026 launch date raises questions about the pace of regulatory alignment required to bring wallet-native commerce to scale across diverse jurisdictions.
