Global payments infrastructure platform Mercuryo has launched Swaps, a new product allowing users to convert holdings across 38 digital tokens and 1,400 trading routes. This expansion into token-to-token infrastructure signals a strategic shift toward providing liquidity management tools for retail users in emerging markets, bypassing the regulatory complexities of the US and Europe.

What was announced

Mercuryo’s Swaps product is designed to facilitate the conversion of digital assets between different blockchain transport layers. The tool supports 38 specific tokens, including major assets like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Solana (SOL), alongside stablecoins such as Tether (USDt) and USDC. It also includes support for a variety of other tokens including Litecoin (LTC), BNB, TRON (TRX), Polygon (POL), Chainlink (LINK), Cardano (ADA), Algorand (ALGO), NEAR Protocol (NEAR), Gram (GRAM), XRP, Avalanche (AVAX), Stellar (XLM), Dogecoin (DOGE), Pepe (PEPE), Kaspa (KAS), Shiba Inu (SHIB), Sui (SUI), Polkadot (DOT) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH). In total, the platform offers 700 trading pairs.

The functionality extends across a wide array of transport layers, including Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, Arbitrum, Base, TRON, TON, and the XRP Ledger. By providing fixed quotes and zero slippage, the product aims to offer transparent pricing for users who need to move assets quickly between layers. Liquidity for the Swaps function is sourced through a leading cryptocurrency exchange that applies rigorous AML controls. However, the product is not available to users in the United States, the United Kingdom, or the European Economic Area (EEA).

The launch follows internal data from the first half of 2026, which indicated a significant shift in user behavior. During a period where Bitcoin and Ethereum prices dropped by 33.2% and 47.3% respectively, stablecoin on-ramp volume on Mercuryo’s platform grew from 43% to 60%. This suggests that users are increasingly using stablecoins as a defensive measure against market volatility, a trend Swaps is positioned to support by allowing immediate movement between speculative assets and stablecoins.

"Swaps enables you to respond immediately to moving markets, whether that means moving into a more speculative token when an opportunity arises or moving back into stablecoins to reduce exposure to volatility,"

The companies involved

Mercuryo is a global payments infrastructure platform that focuses on bridging the gap between traditional finance and the digital asset ecosystem. The company provides a suite of tools for businesses to integrate crypto-to-fiat and fiat-to-crypto transactions into their own applications. By positioning itself as an infrastructure layer rather than a consumer-facing exchange, Mercuryo has carved out a significant niche in the fintech market, particularly for wallets and decentralized applications (dApps) looking to offer seamless onboarding. The firm has established a consistent presence in the digital payments space, with 17 previous reports on FF News highlighting its expansion and partnership strategy.

While it operates globally, its latest product rollout specifically excludes the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Economic Area, reflecting a targeted approach to markets with different regulatory frameworks. This focus on infrastructure allows the company to provide the underlying liquidity and compliance rails that other fintechs require to scale their crypto offerings without building the technology from scratch. The company’s focus remains on providing the plumbing for the digital asset economy, enabling businesses to offer complex financial services through simplified API integrations.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has tracked Mercuryo’s recent efforts to expand its geographic reach and product utility. In October 2026, the company partnered with MetaMask to offer a Mercuryo Waives Crypto On-Ramp Fees for New MetaMask Users in Canada, a move mirrored in a similar collaboration for Mercuryo and MetaMask Launch Zero-Fee Crypto On-Ramp for New Canadian Users earlier that month. The platform has also focused on specific network integrations, such as the Mercuryo and Tangem Launch Zero-Fee USDC On-Ramp for Stellar Users. Furthermore, Mercuryo’s research has highlighted broader market trends, including a Stablecoin Report: 77% of BNB Chain Transfers Under $100 as Retail Use Surges, which found that retail-level usage is driving significant volume on alternative chains.

What this means

The launch of Swaps highlights a maturing crypto infrastructure market where the focus is shifting from simple fiat-to-crypto entry points to sophisticated portfolio management. By excluding the US, UK, and EEA, Mercuryo is effectively drawing a line in the sand regarding regulatory risk, choosing to serve the "rest of the world" where retail demand for stablecoins is often a necessity for wealth preservation rather than a luxury. This puts pressure on traditional centralized exchanges that struggle with cross-chain friction and high fees. The move raises questions about whether the industry will continue to bifurcate into highly regulated, limited-access zones and more flexible, global infrastructure networks that prioritize interoperability over regional compliance.
