Press Release: Agentic Commerce Milestone: AI Agent Completes First Independent BLIK Purchase | Featured Image by FF News

An AI agent has independently completed a purchase and payment using BLIK, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of agentic commerce. By executing a transaction without real-time user intervention, the pilot demonstrates that existing payment infrastructure can support autonomous systems, provided they operate within strict, pre-defined user boundaries and authorization frameworks.

What was announced

The pilot project involved an AI agent monitoring the availability of a specific product—a "light hand cream with coconut and almond fragrance"—at the Your KAYA online store. When the item, which was previously out of stock, became available, the agent autonomously finalized the purchase for PLN 19.99. This transaction was facilitated by Juo, which provided the AI agent chat interface, while PayU handled the payment processing. The successful execution confirms that the technology across the entire process, from AI infrastructure to the payment method itself, is ready to support systems capable of completing purchases without a consumer's direct involvement.

The process began with a logged-in user initiating a chat conversation to assign the task. A key element of the workflow was the user’s prior instruction and authorization. The user granted payment consent through their banking app, defining the conditions under which the agent could act. This included entering a six-digit BLIK code to approve the agent's future activity. Once the product was detected in stock, the agent added the variant to the basket and completed the checkout independently. This model allows for various scenarios beyond simple stock monitoring, such as one-off transactions executed when a specific size becomes available or managing instructions for product subscriptions. The pilot proves that the agent can navigate the purchasing journey from discovery to final settlement while adhering to spending limits and conditions defined by the consumer.

"The market is seeing a growing number of solutions capable of finding products, comparing offers and recommending the best way to buy. Until now, payment has been the missing element in this process. Our solution completes the model: an agent can take over the entire purchasing journey, from monitoring an offer to finalising the transaction with BLIK. However, it operates exclusively within boundaries previously defined by the user and cannot complete a transaction without the user’s prior authorisation"

Monika Król, Vice President of the Board at BLIK.

The companies involved

BLIK is a dominant Polish payment system that has become a staple of the country's digital economy. Integrated into virtually every major Polish banking application, it allows users to make mobile payments, withdraw cash from ATMs, and settle online transactions. The platform has seen rapid growth, recently expanding its capabilities to include recurring payments and "pay later" options to meet evolving consumer demands. The company aims for its infrastructure to become the foundation for new purchasing models where the definition of the buyer shifts from humans to autonomous agents.

PayU is a global provider of payment technology, operating as a leading processor in high-growth markets across Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. The company specializes in providing merchants with local payment methods and secure checkout experiences. In this pilot, PayU acted as the bridge between the merchant environment and the payment method, ensuring the autonomous transaction met security and regulatory standards. Juo is a technology provider focused on building AI-driven customer relationship tools, specifically enabling the AI agent chat within the merchant store. Your KAYA, the merchant involved in the pilot, is an e-commerce brand that has previously utilized BLIK recurring payments for its subscription-based products.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed the expansion of the Polish payment landscape, recently noting that BLIK Hits 1.6 Billion Transactions in H1 2026 as Active User Base Surges to 21.6 Million. This growth has been supported by technical integrations such as when Solidgate Expands Polish Payment Capabilities with BLIK Recurring and BLIK Pay Later. Furthermore, the shift toward automated purchasing was signaled earlier this year when PPRO and BLIK Partner to Launch Agentic Commerce for Local Payments in Poland. These developments highlight a concerted effort to move BLIK beyond manual mobile entries and into more sophisticated, automated financial workflows.

What this means

This pilot moves agentic commerce from a theoretical convenience to a functional reality, placing significant pressure on traditional checkout flows that rely on active human presence. For the fintech sector, the challenge shifts from "how to pay" to "how to authorize." The success of autonomous agents depends entirely on the industry’s ability to standardize "payment consent" frameworks that are as secure as multi-factor authentication but flexible enough to allow for delayed execution. As AI agents begin to act as the primary interface for consumers, payment methods that cannot integrate deeply into these autonomous loops risk being sidelined by those that offer seamless, pre-authorized settlement.
