Meta Integrates Stripe Link to Enable AI-Powered Shopping via Muse Agent
By Lauren Towner · 10 September 2026

Stripe has partnered with Meta to integrate its Link wallet for agents into Muse, Meta’s personal AI assistant. This move allows US consumers to delegate purchasing tasks to AI agents, bridging the gap between conversational interfaces and e-commerce transactions. It represents a significant step in transforming AI agents from information providers into active economic participants.
What was announced
Meta has integrated Stripe’s specialized wallet for agents into its new personal AI agent, Muse. This integration allows US consumers to connect their existing Link accounts—Stripe’s consumer network that currently boasts over 300 million users globally—directly to the Muse interface. Once connected, users can instruct Muse to perform increasingly complex tasks, specifically making purchases on their behalf across the internet.
The system is designed to overcome the traditional barriers of e-commerce, which were built for human navigation. Standard online shopping requires a person to browse websites, compare prices, and manually enter card details. For agents to become true economic actors, they must navigate the internet as people do. At more than 1 million businesses that already accept Link, Muse can perform an instant checkout using the consumer’s preferred payment method saved in the Link network. This setup aims to provide businesses with the higher conversion and authorization rates associated with Link’s streamlined checkout.
For businesses that do not yet support Link, Stripe has implemented a technical bridge. In these instances, Link issues Muse a single-use virtual card that is strictly scoped to the specific, approved purchase amount. Security and user control remain central to the rollout. For every transaction Muse attempts, the consumer is prompted to approve the transaction total directly within the chat interface. Crucially, the Muse agent never sees the underlying payment details, ensuring that sensitive financial data remains isolated within Stripe’s secure environment. This partnership follows similar integrations where Stripe’s agent wallet has been used to power payments for other AI entities, including Grok Bot and Instinct.
"Stripe is building the infrastructure that lets agents buy from businesses," said Jay Shah, business lead for Link at Stripe. "By equipping Muse with Link's wallet for agents, Meta is helping more consumers experience the magic of having an agent shop on their behalf."

The companies involved
Stripe is a programmable financial services company that provides the economic infrastructure for the internet. Since its inception, the firm has moved beyond its origins in simple API-based payment processing to offer a comprehensive suite of financial tools for businesses of all sizes. A core component of its current strategy is Link, a consumer-facing payment network that allows users to save and reuse their payment information across millions of different websites. With over 300 million users globally, Link has become a significant force in reducing checkout friction. Stripe’s recent focus on "agentic" payments reflects its broader ambition to serve as the financial layer for the artificial intelligence economy, enabling non-human actors to transact with the same fluidity as people.
Meta, the parent company of platforms like Facebook and Instagram, is a global leader in social technology and is currently undergoing a massive pivot toward advanced artificial intelligence. The company has invested heavily in developing its own large language models and AI assistants to enhance user engagement across its ecosystem. Muse represents Meta’s latest effort to create a personal AI agent that moves beyond simple information retrieval to perform functional, real-world tasks. By partnering with Stripe, Meta leverages an established financial network to bypass the significant regulatory and technical hurdles of building its own global payment network, instead leveraging Stripe’s established relationships with millions of merchants to give Muse immediate purchasing power.
What this means
The integration of Link into Meta’s Muse marks a definitive shift in the AI landscape, moving the technology from a passive information tool to an active participant in the global economy. By solving the "payment problem" for AI agents, Stripe is effectively creating a new category of consumer: the algorithmic shopper. This development puts significant pressure on traditional e-commerce platforms and payment providers that are still optimized for manual, human-driven checkouts. While the use of single-use virtual cards provides security, the industry must now grapple with how to handle disputes and returns when an AI makes the purchase. Ultimately, this partnership suggests that the future of digital commerce will be defined by how well financial infrastructure can accommodate the speed and automation of AI.
