Adyen and FC Bayern München Extend Partnership to Revolutionize Global Fan Payments
By Lauren Towner · 13 October 2026

Adyen and FC Bayern München have extended their partnership to overhaul payment infrastructure at the Allianz Arena and across the club's global e-commerce channels. For fintech professionals, this deal demonstrates how shaving seconds off transaction times directly impacts revenue in high-pressure live environments, while unifying fragmented sales channels into a single, global payment ecosystem.
What was announced
The collaboration, which began in 2023, focuses on streamlining payment processes for the German record champion. By migrating to Adyen’s unified platform, the club reduced the average processing time per transaction at the Allianz Arena from 30 to 27 seconds. While a three-second gain may seem marginal, it has enabled the club and its catering partner, DO & CO, to process approximately 10% more kiosk transactions during match days. This is particularly critical during the 15-minute halftime window when the stadium’s 75,000 visitors converge on food and beverage outlets.
The technical implementation includes mobile all-in-one terminals equipped with standalone SIM cards. These allow catering teams and beer servers to process payments anywhere in the stands without relying on the stadium’s Wi-Fi infrastructure. In physical FC Bayern stores, the use of mobile terminals and Tap to Pay has been introduced to mitigate wait times for fans.
On the digital front, the partnership covers e-commerce across more than 200 countries, supporting over 250 payment methods. This international focus was evidenced during the club's Summer Tour in Asia, where tailored local payment methods contributed to triple-digit percentage growth in online sales in those markets. At the Allianz Arena, international guests can now pay via Alipay+ using a QR code. Additionally, the platform integrates Adyen Giving, allowing fans to donate to FC Bayern Hilfe e.V., the club’s official non-profit charitable foundation, directly at the terminal. Adyen waives transaction fees for these donations, ensuring 100% of the funds reach the organization.
"What matters in this partnership is this: The perfect stadium experience simply has to be fun for our fans. The payment process should run seamlessly and invisibly in the background,"
Rouven Kasper, FC Bayern’s Executive Board Member for Marketing & Sales.
The companies involved
Adyen is a global financial technology platform that has become a frequent subject of industry analysis, with 211 reports appearing in FF News archives. The company focuses on providing end-to-end payment capabilities, data-driven insights, and financial products in a single global solution. Its "unified commerce" approach is designed to bridge the gap between online and offline sales, a strategy that has seen it partner with major international brands and retailers to simplify complex, multi-region payment stacks.
FC Bayern München, the German record champion, operates as one of the most commercially successful football clubs in the world. Its home ground, the Allianz Arena, serves as a high-volume testing ground for retail and hospitality technology. The club's operations extend far beyond the pitch, encompassing a massive global merchandising arm and a charitable foundation, FC Bayern Hilfe e.V. By partnering with a single fintech provider like Adyen, the club aims to consolidate these diverse revenue streams—from stadium kiosks and physical fan shops to international e-commerce—into a centralized management system that can handle the extreme spikes in demand characteristic of professional sports.
What FF News has reported before
Adyen’s recent activity highlights a consistent focus on both geographic expansion and technological innovation. FF News recently covered how Adyen and Flatpay Partner to Scale Transparent SMB Payment Solutions Across Europe, illustrating the firm's reach into the small and medium business sector. The company's focus on global retail trends was also noted in the Adyen Report: 40% of Hong Kong Retailers Target Global Expansion Amid Rising Fraud Risks, which detailed the challenges of cross-border commerce.
Furthermore, the platform's role in the Asia-Pacific region was highlighted when Adyen Partners with Limitless Technology to Scale E-commerce Gifting Across Asia-Pacific. On the product side, the launch of the Adyen Launches 'Agentic' Suite to Bridge the Gap Between Retailers and AI Commerce Platforms showed the company’s move toward integrating artificial intelligence into the commerce experience.
What this means
The extension of this partnership underscores a shift where payment technology is no longer a back-office utility but a primary driver of operational efficiency in live entertainment. When a 10% increase in transaction volume is achieved simply by reducing latency by three seconds, it places immense pressure on legacy hardware providers who cannot offer the same level of software-led integration. The success of "unified commerce" in this context suggests that the industry is moving away from fragmented regional providers in favor of single-stack global platforms. For the wider sector, the question remains whether other major sporting venues can justify maintaining bespoke, siloed systems when consolidated platforms offer such clear throughput advantages.
