Castles Technology has expanded its partnership with Smart Volution Ltd to provide end-to-end helpdesk support for the Smart Volution Register EPOS software. This move streamlines the support chain for merchants, offering a single point of contact for hardware, payment applications, and software, effectively reducing the friction often found in multi-vendor fintech environments.

What was announced

Castles Technology is now providing full helpdesk support for Smart Volution Register, an Android-based EPOS software. This initiative allows merchants and resellers to bypass traditional vendor hand-offs by contacting Castles for issues across the entire payment stack, including the terminal hardware and the payment application. The collaboration, which has spanned over four years, previously focused on technical integration between the Register software and CastlePay, Castles’ proprietary payment platform.

CastlePay provides Smart Volution partners with access to multiple acquirers, offering flexibility in deployment. The expanded service is compatible with Castles’ full Android terminal range, specifically highlighting the S1F4 device. This terminal can be used in both direct-on-device and semi-integrated configurations. To facilitate large-scale deployments, the companies have also introduced a batch-loading mechanism. This tool automates the onboarding process for merchants onto the Register software, removing the need for individual manual setups. This support is available immediately to partners using Smart Volution Register on Castles hardware.

"Castles have been an excellent partner. For a hardware manufacturer to support not only the hardware and payment application but also the EPOS software is a unique offering, and the quality of their helpdesk has really stood out. That matters more and more as our deployments scale. The Castles S1F4 is also a perfect, cost-effective device for semi-integrated deployments, cutting typical hardware costs by around 70%."

The company maintains a significant market presence across the EMEA, Pacific, and LATAM regions, led by Jean-Philippe Niedergang, who serves as Acting Group CEO and CEO for those territories. Smart Volution Ltd is a fintech firm focused on the development of EPOS software solutions. Its flagship product, Smart Volution Register, is designed specifically for Android-based systems, targeting merchants who require integrated point-of-sale and payment capabilities. Under the leadership of CEO Justin Coward, the company has built a partner network that relies on the integration of its software with hardware manufacturers to deliver cost-effective solutions to the retail and hospitality sectors. The partnership with Castles represents a deepening of their existing technical relationship to include operational support.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has followed Castles Technology’s recent efforts to expand its footprint and technical capabilities. In October 2026, the company achieved a significant milestone when Castles Technology Secures Full PCI MPoC Validation for SoftPOS Portfolio, enhancing its software-based payment offerings. This followed a strategic push in its home market, as seen when Castles Technology Expands French Presence and Managed Payment Services Ahead of NRF Europe. Earlier in the year, the publication explored the company's impact on the British landscape in Beyond Acceptance: How Castles Technology is Redefining the UK Point of Sale Market, which highlighted a shift in merchant expectations toward more integrated, service-oriented POS solutions.

What this means

This announcement signals a shift in the hardware-software dynamic within the payments industry. By taking on helpdesk responsibilities for third-party software, Castles is moving beyond the role of a traditional hardware manufacturer to become a full-service managed provider. This puts pressure on competitors who still rely on fragmented support models, as merchants increasingly prioritize "one-call" resolution for complex EPOS issues. The introduction of automated batch-onboarding also addresses a critical bottleneck in the mid-market, suggesting that the industry's next battleground will be the speed and simplicity of deployment rather than just the technical specifications of the hardware itself.
