Convera Strengthens Global Leadership with Four Senior Hires to Accelerate Money Movement Platform
By Lauren Towner · 13 October 2026

Convera has overhauled its senior leadership team with four executive appointments designed to accelerate the delivery of its integrated global money movement platform. For fintech professionals, this shift marks a transition from foundational infrastructure building to scaling a unified solution that combines cross-border payments, FX risk management, and multi-currency capabilities for the modern enterprise.
What was announced
Convera announced the appointment of Mike Cahill as EVP and Chief Operating Officer, Jon Southall as SVP and Chief Technology Officer, Tui Allen as SVP and Chief Product Officer, and Chris Steinig as Chief Information Officer. These leaders are tasked with executing a roadmap focused on "agentic commerce" and providing businesses with tools to manage currency volatility through a single integrated platform.
Mike Cahill, who joined the firm as an interim leader in June 2026, now leads the combined Product, Technology, and Operations organization. His background includes scaling platforms at Early Warning Services (the operator of Zelle), PayPal, and American Express. Jon Southall joins from PayPal, where he managed the Large Enterprise Platform handling $1.5 trillion in annual transaction volume. Tui Allen, previously of Ticketmaster/Live Nation and Shopify, will focus on modernizing product experiences and translating complex customer needs into scalable solutions. Chris Steinig, a 25-year veteran of the company, steps into the CIO role to bridge platform modernization with operational resilience and enterprise technology.
The new leadership team will oversee the expansion of Convera’s Multi-Currency Accounts and APIs. These tools are designed to allow banks, fintechs, and business platforms to embed FX risk management and payment capabilities directly into their own customer experiences, addressing the need for speed, cost efficiency, and transaction visibility across various payment rails.
"Businesses don’t just need faster or less expensive cross-border payments. They need to know where their money is, what it is worth and how to protect it as it moves," said Patrick Gauthier, Group CEO at Convera. "That is the opportunity in front of Convera. Our global reach, FX expertise, regulatory depth and customer relationships enable us to solve that problem in a way few providers can. Mike, Jon, Tui and Chris are proven leaders with the experience, judgement and execution discipline to help us deliver for customers. Each brings a distinct perspective, and together they give us the leadership depth to advance our roadmap for integrated cross-border money movement."

The companies involved
Convera is a global specialist in commercial payments and foreign exchange, operating as a standalone entity under the ownership of The Baupost Group. The company has established itself as a major player in the cross-border space by focusing on the complex needs of businesses, educational institutions, and financial organizations that require high-volume, multi-currency transaction capabilities.
The firm’s position in the market is defined by its ability to navigate diverse regulatory environments and provide deep FX expertise. By operating independently from traditional banking structures, Convera competes by offering agile, API-driven solutions that can be embedded into third-party platforms. This strategy places them in competition with both legacy correspondent banking networks and newer, digital-native fintech challengers. With a focus on the emergence of agentic commerce—where automated systems increasingly drive transaction decisions—Convera is positioning its infrastructure to handle the next generation of automated global trade and multi-currency treasury management.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely tracked Convera’s expanding partnership ecosystem and its analysis of the global macroeconomic environment. Recently, the company warned of a growing "volatility gap" that threatens global business margins as payment innovation outpaces traditional risk management. On the partnership front, Convera has been active in scaling its reach through technical integrations. This includes a collaboration where PayDo Partners with Convera to scale global SWIFT receivables and cross-border payments. Additionally, the firm has focused on regional growth, notably when Convera and JustLogin Partnered to simplify cross-border payroll across Southeast Asia, addressing specific challenges faced by Singapore-based businesses.
What this means
This leadership overhaul suggests that the era of "cheap and fast" as a primary differentiator in cross-border payments is ending. By recruiting heavyweights from PayPal and Shopify, Convera is signaling that the real battleground has shifted to platform integration and user experience. The industry is under pressure to move beyond simple transaction processing toward providing comprehensive treasury-like functions for SMEs and large enterprises alike. The open question for the sector is whether legacy-heavy providers can modernize fast enough to compete with the "agentic commerce" model. This move puts significant pressure on mid-tier banks and specialized FX brokers who lack the scale to build similar integrated API suites.
