Press Release: Zilch Commits £77m to New London HQ as Customer Spend Surpasses £8 Billion | Featured Image by FF News

Zilch is more than doubling its London office capacity with a move to a 33,160-square-foot headquarters in Victoria. The £77 million investment signals a significant commitment to the UK fintech ecosystem as the platform prepares for a broader European expansion and integrates its recent acquisition of Fjord Bank into a unified operational hub.

What was announced

Zilch will take over the fourth and fifth floors of 40 Grosvenor Place, a move that provides space for more than 400 employees. This represents a substantial increase from its current base at 111 Buckingham Palace Road, where the company has been located since January 2024. The transition to the new site is expected to take place in Spring 2027.

The relocation involves a £77 million investment over a ten-year period. This capital commitment is designed to support the creation of new jobs in the UK and provide the infrastructure necessary for the company’s international growth. The move coincides with several major operational milestones, including the platform surpassing £8 billion in total customer spend across the United Kingdom. The company currently serves 6 million customers.

Strategically, the new headquarters will serve as the base for driving expansion into European markets. This follows the acquisition of Fjord Bank, a deal expected to reach completion in the first half of 2027. The expansion also builds on a multi-year strategic partnership with Visa and the company’s role as the Official Way to Pay for Arsenal FC. The building’s investment manager, PATRIZIA, was represented by CBRE and Knight Frank, while XIX represented Zilch in the transaction.

"As we continue to expand rapidly, our new headquarters reflect the scale of our ambition and the momentum behind our growth. This is an important investment in Zilch’s future, giving our team an incredible base to attract exceptional talent at home and beyond. We are proud to be investing further in the UK as we enter the next phase of growth."

The companies involved

Zilch is an intelligent payments platform that focuses on consumer credit and payment solutions. Since its inception, the company has positioned itself as a major player in the UK fintech sector. Its business model has recently evolved to include deeper integration with traditional financial infrastructure, evidenced by its multi-year strategic partnership with Visa.

Visa is one of the world's largest payment technology companies, facilitating electronic funds transfers globally. The partnership between Visa and Zilch is part of a broader trend of established payment networks collaborating with agile fintech firms to modernise consumer lending and transaction processing.

Fjord Bank, which Zilch is in the process of acquiring, is a digital bank based in Lithuania. This acquisition is a critical component of Zilch’s strategy to establish a regulated presence within the European Union. By bringing Fjord Bank under its umbrella, Zilch gains the regulatory foundation required to offer its payment services across the continent, moving beyond its initial UK-centric focus.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has extensively tracked the evolution of the payments landscape, particularly regarding Zilch’s partners. Recent coverage includes reports on how Visa and Barclaycard Payments Launch Unified Checkout to Simplify UK Merchant Payments, highlighting the ongoing drive for streamlined transaction experiences in the UK. Furthermore, Visa’s global infrastructure developments have been a focus, such as when Visa Scales Stablecoin Strategy with Commercial Launch of Visa Direct Prefunding and the news that StraitsX Partners with Visa to Launch Stablecoin-Backed Cards in Over 100 Markets. The network's regulatory progress was also noted when Visa Secures PBOC Approval to Prepare for Domestic Bankcard Clearing in China.

What this means

This move signals that the era of "lean" fintech may be giving way to a period of institutional consolidation for successful scale-ups. By committing to a ten-year, £77 million lease, Zilch is betting heavily on the long-term viability of the London fintech hub. The timing is particularly telling; moving into a massive physical space just as the Fjord Bank acquisition completes suggests a shift from a pure software play to a full-stack financial institution. For the wider market, this puts pressure on mid-tier payment providers who lack the capital to secure such a dominant physical and regulatory footprint. It raises the question of whether the unified platform model can finally achieve the scale necessary to challenge traditional high-street banks on their own turf.
