Visa Unveils AI-Powered B2B Payment Tools and Live Pilot for Trusted AI Agents
By Lauren Towner · 21 October 2026

Visa has introduced three new commercial payment capabilities focused on AI-driven spend analytics, virtual card security, and agentic commerce. For fintech professionals, these tools address the critical friction points of B2B automation, providing the necessary infrastructure to scale virtual card adoption and secure autonomous AI-driven transactions within complex corporate procurement workflows.
What was announced
Visa's update centers on three distinct pillars: SESA 2.0, Visa Commercial Fraud Solutions, and a live agentic commerce pilot. SESA 2.0, the next generation of Supplier Enablement Spend Analytics, utilizes AI to analyze spend patterns and provide predictive insights, helping financial institutions identify which suppliers are most likely to accept commercial cards. To date, the SESA platform has helped financial institutions uncover more than $600 billion in potential cardable spend by using buyer benchmarks and business-value modeling.
The new Visa Commercial Fraud Solutions suite addresses the growing B2B virtual card market, which is projected to reach $14.6 trillion by 2029. This suite includes Supplier Validation to verify that payments are sent to the intended recipient, Virtual Authentication using 3-D Secure protocols to verify users, and Payment Controls that allow businesses to set specific parameters for spend, merchant category, location, and timing. While Visa Commercial Payment Controls are currently available to supported issuing financial institutions, the Supplier Validation and Virtual Authentication components are currently in pilot and scheduled for general availability in 2027.
Finally, Visa is collaborating with BILL and Billtrust on a live pilot for agentic commerce. This initiative uses Visa Intelligent Commerce and the Trusted Agent Protocol to allow AI agents to initiate and complete invoice payments through supplier portals. Rather than relying on shared login credentials, the system employs tokenized payment credentials to connect buyer-side approvals with supplier-side acceptance, ensuring transactions remain within business-defined controls. The pilot is currently live and processing end-to-end transactions with participating customers.

What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely monitored Visa’s recent expansions into specialized payment sectors and its push toward autonomous finance. On October 20, 2026, we covered the initial details of the Visa, BILL and Billtrust Launch First Live Pilot for Trusted AI Agent B2B Payments, highlighting the shift toward autonomous transaction handling. This followed news on October 19, 2026, regarding a collaboration where Visa and Mesh Partner to Enable Crypto Payments at 175 Million Merchants Globally. Additionally, we reported on Visa’s work in the stablecoin space through a partnership with StraitsX Partners with Visa to Launch Stablecoin-Backed Cards in Over 100 Markets. These developments underscore a broader strategy to diversify payment rails and enhance digital asset utility.
What this means
This move signals that the B2B payments industry is moving beyond simple digitization toward true autonomous finance. By introducing "agentic commerce," Visa is attempting to solve the "last mile" problem of B2B payments: the manual entry of payment data into supplier portals. This puts significant pressure on traditional banks and legacy ERP providers who have yet to integrate AI-driven orchestration into their payment workflows. The primary challenge for the sector will be establishing standardized protocols for AI identity; if every network creates its own proprietary protocol, the resulting fragmentation could stifle the very efficiency these tools are designed to create. The industry must now decide if it will coalesce around a single standard for AI-driven transactions.
