SpareBank 1 Enhances Digital Banking App with Snowdrop Solutions and Visa
By Lauren Towner · 27 October 2026

SpareBank 1 has launched a transaction enrichment initiative in partnership with Visa and Snowdrop Solutions to provide customers with clearer payment information. By replacing cryptic transaction strings with recognizable merchant names, logos, and maps, the bank aims to reduce customer confusion and improve the digital banking experience across its mobile and online platforms.
What was announced
SpareBank 1 is rolling out enhanced transaction data to its mobile banking app and online banking portal. The system uses Snowdrop Solutions’ enrichment API, which leverages AI-driven capabilities to transform raw transaction data into human-readable information. Users can now view accurate merchant names and high-quality logos instead of the often-unintelligible text strings typically found on bank statements. Additionally, the integration of the Google Places API within the Google Maps Platform allows customers to see the precise location of a purchase on a map with a single tap. This functionality is designed to help customers immediately identify where their money was spent, addressing a common pain point in digital banking where vague merchant descriptions lead to uncertainty. The initiative is enabled by Visa and is part of a broader effort to deliver more intuitive digital journeys. By providing clearer data, the bank expects to improve customer confidence and potentially reduce the volume of support inquiries related to unrecognized transactions.
"When customers look at a transaction, they should immediately recognise where the money was spent. Some transactions have been harder to interpret than others. Now customers see the shop name and logo they know, and can find the store on a map with a single tap, both in the mobile app and in the online bank. It is a small change on the screen, but it makes everyday banking noticeably easier."

What this means
This move highlights a growing industry standard where "raw" data is no longer acceptable for consumer-facing interfaces. As digital banking matures, the pressure is on traditional institutions to match the UX standards set by neobanks, who pioneered clean transaction feeds. For the wider sector, this shift raises the bar for data transparency; banks that fail to provide recognizable merchant information risk higher customer service costs and lower trust. It also underscores the critical role of third-party enrichment providers in bridging the gap between legacy payment rails and modern, AI-enhanced user expectations.
