Planet has partnered with embedded financing platform YouLend to provide small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with streamlined access to working capital. By integrating funding directly into Planet’s payment and property management software, the collaboration allows merchants in the retail and hospitality sectors to secure financing based on real-time sales data rather than traditional credit histories.

What was announced

The partnership initially rolls out across seven European markets: the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, and Denmark. Through this integration, Planet’s existing merchant base can access YouLend’s digital funding services via the software platforms they already use for daily operations, such as property management and retail systems.

The service is designed to bypass the lengthy timelines associated with traditional bank lending, which can often take weeks or months to process. Instead, the digital application and assessment process utilizes current business performance data to deliver credit decisions within minutes or hours. Once approved, SMEs can typically receive funding within 24 to 48 hours.

A key feature of the offering is the repayment structure, which is directly linked to a merchant’s sales volume. This model ensures that repayment amounts fluctuate in line with revenue, providing a buffer for hospitality and travel businesses during seasonal downturns. The total cost of the capital is disclosed and agreed upon upfront, ensuring transparency for the borrower. While Planet facilitates the connection through its customer channels, YouLend retains full responsibility for all underwriting, funding decisions, pricing, and servicing. Since its inception in 2017, YouLend has provided funding to over 400,000 businesses across 10 different markets, focusing on smaller operators that are frequently underserved by conventional credit models.

The companies involved

Planet is a global provider of integrated payments and software solutions, specifically tailored for the retail, hospitality, and travel sectors. Owned by the private equity firm Advent International, the company focuses on simplifying complex payment environments and providing property management software that helps merchants manage their operations and financial flows. Planet’s market position is defined by its ability to combine payment processing with industry-specific software, creating a unified ecosystem for its clients that spans both physical and digital storefronts.

YouLend is an embedded financing platform that operates as part of the Banking Circle Group. Since its launch in 2017, it has established itself as a major provider of white-label funding solutions for e-commerce platforms, tech companies, and payment service providers. By using a data-led model for underwriting, YouLend enables its partners to offer credit to their own business customers without taking on the regulatory or financial burden of lending themselves. The company’s growth has been driven by its ability to integrate into various financial ecosystems, providing a bridge between institutional capital and the SME market.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has extensively tracked YouLend’s expansion through strategic partnerships across Europe. Recently, the platform reached a significant milestone in the UK, where YouLend and Dojo Hit £2bn Milestone to Close UK SME Funding Gap. The company has also been active in diversifying its reach through specialized fintechs, as seen when ANNA and YouLend Launch Embedded Finance to Unlock Revenue for UK SMEs.

Beyond the UK, YouLend has partnered with major global payment players to enter regional markets, including a collaboration where Worldline and YouLend Launch Cash Advance for SMEs in Poland. Additionally, the trend of integrating finance into retail-specific software was highlighted when Verifone Launches Commander Capital, a move that similarly targeted niche retail segments with instant merchant financing.

What this means

This partnership signals a maturing of the embedded finance sector, where the focus is shifting from generic cash advances to deeply integrated vertical solutions. By embedding YouLend into Planet’s property management and retail software, the industry is moving closer to a reality where credit is a feature of the operating system rather than a separate financial product. This puts significant pressure on traditional commercial banks, whose slow manual underwriting processes are increasingly incompatible with the real-time needs of the hospitality and retail sectors. The success of such models raises a critical question for the industry: as payment processors become the primary gatekeepers of SME credit, what role remains for traditional lenders in the small-business ecosystem?
