UK business account provider ANNA has integrated YouLend’s embedded finance solution to provide small businesses and sole traders with instant access to capital. By allowing firms to draw against two months of projected revenue from platforms like eBay and Just Eat, the partnership addresses critical cash flow gaps caused by late payments and declining appetite for traditional bank loans.

What was announced

The partnership introduces a fully embedded merchant cash advance product within the ANNA app, allowing eligible users to access up to two months’ worth of revenue. This funding is designed to bypass the lengthy application processes associated with traditional business loans, which often take weeks to finalize. Instead, the system uses a business's trading history to provide a decision and funding in as little as 24 hours.

The capital is secured against projected revenue from marketplace sales and payment provider flows, specifically naming platforms such as eBay, Just Eat Takeaway.com, Teya, and Dojo. Repayment is structured as a share of future revenue, meaning the settlement amount automatically adjusts to the business's daily performance, accounting for seasonality or slower trading days. This flexibility is aimed at businesses looking to stock up for busy seasons, cover payroll during quiet months, or invest in site refurbishments and new inventory.

The launch follows significant organic demand already observed between the two entities. To date, 1,531 ANNA customers have utilized YouLend’s services, resulting in a total funding volume of £44.8 million. This represents an average of £29,300 per business. Data cited by the companies highlights the necessity of such products; 42% of small firms reported being paid late in the past year, while interest in traditional external funding has dropped from 63% in 2023 to a record low of 40%. YouLend reports that 80% of pre-qualified customers who apply through this system successfully receive approval.

"Most small businesses aren't short on revenue, they're short on timing. The money's coming, it's just not here yet. This isn't about waiting for a bank to say yes to a loan, with YouLend it's about putting the revenue your business is already generating to work now, today - instead of waiting for it to land sometime next week. We built ANNA to get admin out of people's way - waiting for your own money to arrive shouldn't be one more thing on that list."

What FF News has reported before

YouLend has been a frequent subject of coverage, with 37 previous stories detailing its expansion across the European market. Recently, FF News reported that YouLend and Dojo Hit £2bn Milestone to Close UK SME Funding Gap, highlighting the massive scale of its UK operations. The company has also been active in Germany, where it partnered with several platforms to reach thousands of merchants. This includes a collaboration where YouLend and comrce Partner to Deliver Embedded Capital to 24,000 German E-commerce Merchants, as well as similar moves where YouLend and REA Card Partner to Launch Embedded Financing for German SMEs and YouLend and JTL Launch Embedded Financing Partnership for German E-commerce Merchants.

What this means

This partnership underscores a fundamental shift in how small businesses interact with capital. By embedding lending directly into a business account, the industry is moving away from the "bank branch" model toward a "platform" model where credit is a feature of the software a merchant already uses. This puts significant pressure on traditional high-street lenders, whose rigid credit scoring and slow approval times are increasingly out of step with the needs of the gig economy and digital marketplaces. However, the rise of revenue-based financing raises important questions about the long-term cost of capital for SMEs. While these advances solve immediate liquidity crises, the industry must ensure that automated repayments do not inadvertently stifle growth during periods of prolonged economic volatility.
