Noda Launches BIN-to-Bank to Bring Open Banking into Card Checkouts across Europe
By Lauren Towner · 28 October 2026

Noda has launched BIN-to-Bank, a solution designed to convert card transactions into Open Banking payments without changing the merchant's checkout interface. By routing eligible payments to account-to-account flows based on card identification numbers, the technology allows high-volume merchants to mitigate rising chargeback risks and processing fees while maintaining a familiar user experience for customers.
What was announced
The BIN-to-Bank solution is now available across 26 European countries, targeting online merchants who process significant payment volumes. The primary objective is to tackle the escalating financial impact of chargebacks, which research from Datos Insights suggests could reach $46.1 billion globally by 2029. By shifting transactions from card schemes to bank transfers, merchants can bypass traditional card fees and the dispute mechanisms associated with them.
The system works by intercepting the standard card entry process. When a customer begins typing their card details, the software uses the Bank Identification Number (BIN) to identify the issuing bank. If that bank supports a compatible Open Banking flow, the customer is prompted to approve the payment via their banking app instead of completing a card charge. Crucially, this happens within the existing checkout flow, removing the need for merchants to add new payment buttons or undertake a major redesign of their interface.
If a customer does not complete the bank-to-bank transfer, the transaction automatically falls back to the merchant’s original card processing route. This ensures that the attempt to lower costs does not result in a lost sale, providing a safety net for businesses that want to increase account-to-account (A2A) adoption without alienating customers who prefer traditional card payments. The solution gives merchants the flexibility to decide which eligible transactions take the bank route, allowing them to capture the lower costs of bank payments at scale.
The companies involved
Noda is an open banking technology provider that focuses on providing direct bank connectivity for online merchants. The company’s core infrastructure is designed to help businesses accept instant bank payments, which typically offer lower processing costs and reduced risk of card-related chargebacks compared to traditional payment methods. Currently, Noda’s network connects merchants to more than 2,000 banks across 26 European countries.
The firm positions itself as a strategic partner for businesses looking to improve conversion rates and expand their reach through secure, fast payment technology. Beyond simple payment processing, Noda provides dedicated support to its merchant partners to help them navigate the complexities of the European financial landscape. By leveraging Open Banking protocols, the company aims to provide a more efficient alternative to the established card schemes that have dominated the e-commerce sector for decades. Its technology suite is built to handle the demands of high-volume online businesses that require both scale and reliability in their financial operations, often integrating with other fintech providers to expand its utility in the UK and EU markets.

What this means
This move highlights a critical shift in the battle for the checkout: the "stealth" transition to Open Banking. For years, the industry has struggled with the "A2A adoption gap," where customers ignore bank payment buttons in favor of familiar card logos. By masking the bank transfer behind a card entry field, Noda is effectively bypassing consumer inertia. This puts significant pressure on traditional card schemes, as it targets their most profitable high-volume merchants. However, it raises questions about consumer transparency; if a user expects a card transaction but is redirected to an app, the industry must ensure this doesn't damage trust in the checkout process. Success here could signal the end of the "alternative payment method" label for Open Banking, moving it into the primary transaction flow.
