Brite Payments has launched Brite Pass, a solution designed to accelerate repeat account-to-account (A2A) transactions for European merchants. By reducing checkout completion times by 50% through device and API matching, the tool addresses the friction often associated with Pay by Bank flows, offering a more competitive alternative to traditional card-based checkout experiences.

What was announced

The launch of Brite Pass introduces a returning user solution specifically engineered to streamline the repeat checkout process for online businesses across Europe. The primary objective of the product is to transform first-time buyers into repeat customers by significantly lowering the barriers to completing a transaction. According to the technical specifications, the solution achieves a recognition rate exceeding 90 per cent for returning user sessions by utilizing a combination of API data and device matching.

The functionality of Brite Pass removes several traditional hurdles in the Open Banking journey, including manual IBAN entry, the requirement for manual bank selection, and account eligibility checks. The user journey begins with a simple opt-in; when a consumer completes a standard Pay by Bank transaction, they can choose to be remembered for future purchases. Brite Pass then securely maps the consumer’s identity using data such as customer IDs and email addresses, paired with tamper-proof device identifiers. On subsequent visits to the same merchant, or any other merchant within the Brite-enabled network, the consumer’s preferred bank account is automatically pre-selected.

Security is maintained through bank-grade standards that avoid the storage of sensitive data or the caching of passwords and logins. Furthermore, the company has confirmed that an upcoming release will integrate one-touch payments into the Brite Pass framework. This future update is set to allow consumers to initiate payments in a single step using biometric authentication, such as Face ID and fingerprints, or secure passkeys.

"By replacing multi-step bank redirections with pre-selected account recognition, Brite Pass removes the primary drivers of cart abandonment in Pay by Bank flows,"

George Parks Davie, VP of Product at Brite Payments.

The companies involved

Brite Payments is a prominent European provider of instant bank payments, operating within the rapidly evolving account-to-account (A2A) sector. The company focuses on leveraging Open Banking infrastructure to facilitate real-time transfers, positioning its services as a modern alternative to legacy payment methods and traditional card networks. By bypassing the intermediaries typically associated with card transactions, the firm aims to provide merchants with faster settlement times and lower operational costs.

The company operates across multiple European markets, focusing on the technical integration of bank-to-bank transfers into the checkout experience. As a specialist in instant payments, Brite Payments competes in a crowded fintech landscape where the ease of user experience is increasingly becoming the primary differentiator. The firm’s strategy centers on reducing the "checkout fatigue" often cited as a reason for lower adoption rates in Open Banking compared to established digital wallets or stored-card solutions.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed the expansion of Brite Payments as it scales its infrastructure across the continent. Previously, the publication covered a significant milestone for the firm in the story Brite Payments Secures FCA License to Launch Instant Pay by Bank Services in UK. This development marked the company's formal entry into the UK market, where it sought to establish its Pay by Bank services as a viable European alternative to the dominant card schemes. The acquisition of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) license was a critical regulatory step, allowing the provider to offer its instant payment technology to a broader range of merchants and consumers within the British financial ecosystem.

What this means

The introduction of Brite Pass represents a strategic attempt to solve the "second-time friction" problem that has historically hindered A2A payments. While Open Banking offers lower costs for merchants, the user experience has often lagged behind the "one-click" convenience of Apple Pay or Amazon’s stored cards. By implementing network-wide recognition, Brite is moving toward a platform model where a user’s preferences follow them across different retailers. This puts significant pressure on traditional card schemes and other A2A providers who lack a unified identity layer. The success of this initiative will likely depend on consumer trust regarding device-based recognition and whether the 50% time saving is enough to break long-standing card habits.
