Mesta has launched Phase One of its Agentic Payments roadmap, introducing a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server to connect AI agents with its global settlement network. For fintech leaders, this represents a shift toward governed, automated workflows where AI can execute transactions within strict human-defined mandates, bridging the gap between large language models and real-world financial rails.

What was announced

Mesta is rolling out a structured three-phase roadmap to integrate AI agents into its established payment infrastructure. Phase One, available immediately, centers on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. This server acts as a standardized interface, allowing enterprise AI systems to discover payment functions, retrieve quotes, and check statuses without the need for complex, multi-endpoint API integrations. Mesta estimates this approach could reduce some enterprise integration timelines from several weeks to a matter of hours, depending on individual organizational requirements.

The roadmap continues with Phase Two, planned to begin in Q4 2026, which will introduce business process workflows and a "mandate layer." This layer will allow organizations to set hard limits on agent activity, including spending caps, expiry periods, and approval requirements. Phase Three will eventually support end-to-end agentic transactions, where AI can execute payments autonomously within pre-approved boundaries, while anything exceeding those limits will require human intervention. Mesta also plans to incorporate "Know Your Agent" (KYA) checks as the identity standards for AI agents mature.

The architecture follows a four-stage framework: Intent, Mandate, Authorization, and Settlement. Crucially, all compliance and limit checks occur on Mesta’s side, ensuring that an AI agent cannot bypass restrictions through its own instructions. Mesta has already deployed internal agents for payment operations and compliance, reporting that entity review times dropped from 90 minutes to under 15 minutes. The company’s underlying network, which supports these new agentic capabilities, has processed over $2.5 billion across 40,000 transactions in the last 22 months.

"Agentic payments cannot operate as a software layer disconnected from the underlying payment network. We built the settlement rails first and proved them at scale. Today, we are opening those capabilities to AI systems through MCP and setting out a clear path toward governed agentic payments."

The companies involved

Mesta is a fintech infrastructure provider focused on redefining how money moves globally through a hybrid approach to settlement. The company operates a global fiat and stablecoin settlement network designed to handle high-volume, cross-border transactions with greater efficiency than traditional banking rails. By positioning itself at the intersection of programmable money and established compliance frameworks, Mesta provides the underlying infrastructure necessary for modern enterprise finance.

The firm is led by Founder and CEO Sandeep Pyapali and Head of Engineering Kiran Polavarapu. Mesta’s market position is defined by its emphasis on "settlement rails first," arguing that software-driven automation—particularly involving artificial intelligence—is only as effective as the financial infrastructure it sits upon. Unlike pure-play AI startups attempting to enter the payments space, Mesta enters the agentic payments sector with a track record of processing billions in transaction volume. This background allows the company to integrate emerging technologies like the Model Context Protocol (MCP) into a system that already manages the complexities of multi-currency settlement and regulatory adherence.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed Mesta’s evolution from its early infrastructure launches to its recent expansion into user-facing tools. In January 2025, we covered the initial rollout of their hybrid fiat-stablecoin payment rails, which formed the foundation of their current network. This was followed by a significant capital injection in September 2025, when Mesta secured a $5.5 million seed round to scale its cross-border payment solutions. More recently, in August 2026, the company moved beyond pure API connectivity by launching a white-labeled customer portal, designed to simplify how partners access and manage their global payment infrastructure.

What this means

The move toward agentic payments signals a critical maturation in the intersection of AI and fintech. While the industry has long discussed "autonomous finance," Mesta’s focus on the "mandate layer" addresses the primary hurdle: trust. By keeping authorization and compliance checks outside the AI model’s control, Mesta is challenging the notion that automation requires a trade-off in security. This puts pressure on traditional payment gateways that lack the programmable infrastructure to support agent-to-agent commerce. The sector must now grapple with "Know Your Agent" (KYA) standards, as the identity of the entity initiating a transaction becomes as important as the business itself.
