KARTY Secures Visa FinTech Innovation Award for Advancing Digital Payments in Qatar
By Lauren Towner · 26 August 2026

KARTY LLC has received Visa’s FinTech Innovation Award, marking a significant milestone for the Qatari digital wallet as it transitions from a development-focused startup to a live market contender. For fintech professionals, this signals the maturation of Qatar’s domestic payment ecosystem and the increasing influence of licensed non-bank entities in the Gulf region.
What was announced
KARTY has been recognised by Visa for its efforts in advancing digital payments and money management within Qatar. This award follows the recent launch of the first Visa card in the country to be issued by a licensed fintech company. The platform, which is available on both iOS and Android, allows users to open accounts and load funds into a digital wallet for global use wherever Visa is accepted.
The service is built around a mobile application that integrates several financial management tools. Beyond standard transactions, the platform includes spending insights, budgeting features, and virtual cards. A key technical addition is the Visa Subscription Management tool, making KARTY the first fintech in the region to allow users to view and terminate recurring payments directly from within its own interface. The offering also includes a rewards programme, KPoints, which allows customers to redeem points for benefits, alongside a premium card proposition that provides competitive exchange rates for international spending.
Operating under the regulatory oversight of the Qatar Central Bank (QCB) and registered with the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), KARTY has also secured PCI-DSS certification to meet international cyber security standards. The company is currently focused on driving adoption among Qatar’s digitally savvy consumer base, leveraging its position as a top-rated application on the local iOS App Store.
"We started KARTY with a simple idea: people should have a clearer view of their money and better tools to manage it. This award recognises the work that has gone into building this application and the success it's had with our customers. It motivates us for our next steps."
Mohammed Suleiman, Co-founder of KARTY LLC.
The companies involved
KARTY LLC is a digital wallet and payment startup based in Qatar. It has established itself as a pioneer in the local market by becoming the first fintech in the country to provide a Visa-branded card under a specific regulatory license. The company operates within the legal framework of the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), a business and financial hub that provides a platform for firms to operate in Qatar and the wider region, and is regulated by the Qatar Central Bank (QCB), the primary monetary authority responsible for maintaining financial stability in the state.
Visa is a global leader in digital payments, facilitating transactions between consumers, merchants, financial institutions, and government entities across more than 200 countries and territories. In the Middle East, Visa has been increasingly active in fostering local fintech ecosystems through innovation awards and technical partnerships. The collaboration with KARTY involves the deployment of specific Visa technologies, such as their subscription management modules, to enhance the functionality of domestic digital wallets. The project is supported by the Android and iOS platforms, which serve as the primary distribution channels for KARTY’s financial services.

What this means
This announcement highlights a shift in the Qatari financial landscape, where traditional banking dominance is being challenged by agile, licensed fintechs. By integrating subscription management and budgeting tools directly into a wallet, KARTY is moving beyond simple payment processing toward a "financial control centre" model. This puts pressure on traditional regional banks to upgrade their legacy mobile offerings or risk losing the younger, digitally native demographic. The endorsement from Visa suggests that global payment networks view local fintechs as essential partners for driving volume in emerging digital economies. The critical question for the sector now is whether the regulatory environment in the Gulf will continue to open up fast enough to allow these startups to compete on a level playing field with established institutional players.
