Square for Franchises Powers Ideal Nutrition’s National Expansion and Unified Commerce Strategy
By Lauren Towner · 18 September 2026

Florida-based healthy meal concept Ideal Nutrition has expanded its partnership with Square to anchor its national franchise expansion. By consolidating retail, payroll, and loyalty onto a single platform, the move highlights a growing trend of multi-channel food businesses seeking unified commerce solutions to manage the operational complexity of scaling from local delivery to a nationwide physical footprint.
What was announced
Ideal Nutrition has committed to Square as the unified commerce platform for its entire operation, covering retail stores, franchise management, loyalty programs, marketing, and payroll. The company currently operates 17 retail locations across Florida, with three additional sites under construction. Since transitioning from a delivery-only model to a multi-channel business, the brand now produces approximately 150,000 meals per week at its West Palm Beach manufacturing facility, with each meal priced at $8.49.
The technology stack includes Square Point-of-Sale running on Square Register hardware, alongside Square Handheld devices for mobile barcode scanning. To manage its growth, the brand utilizes Square for Franchises, which provides corporate leadership with centralized visibility while allowing individual franchisees to manage their own accounts. The integration extends to third-party delivery services including DoorDash, Uber Eats, and GrubHub via Square’s native menu integration, which facilitates frequent updates to the brand’s rotating menu of 40-plus chef-crafted meals.
The partnership also encompasses Square Payroll, Square Shifts, Square Loyalty, and Square Marketing. Performance data indicates significant engagement, with email marketing open rates reaching approximately 47%. Since the beginning of 2025, customers have accrued over 17 million loyalty points and redeemed more than 64% of them, resulting in over 110,000 gifted meals. Looking toward future operations, the company expects to reach 20 locations by the end of 2026 and is currently exploring Square’s AI capabilities for store-level meal order forecasting based on historical sales trends.
"Square has been part of Ideal Nutrition since the day we opened our first retail store, and the relationship has only grown stronger as our company has expanded. Today, our customers can purchase Ideal Nutrition meals through our growing network of retail locations or order directly through our website for convenient direct-to-consumer delivery. Having a platform that our teams trust, that can scale alongside our business, and that our franchisees can confidently use from day one is extremely important to us. Other companies have tried to win us over, but Square has continued to earn our loyalty. We’re excited about where the relationship goes from here, particularly as we begin leveraging Square’s AI capabilities to operate more efficiently, better understand our customers, and make smarter decisions as we continue to grow."

The companies involved
Ideal Nutrition is a Florida-based prepared meal company founded by Wolfgang Brunet, who established the business while serving as a police officer in West Palm Beach. Brunet, who holds degrees in Business Management and Marketing and has a professional background in finance, initially launched the brand as a delivery-only service before opening the first retail location in 2019. Matthew Steinberg, also a former police officer, serves as the company's Vice President and joined the business in early 2018. The brand differentiates itself through an in-house manufacturing model and a non-subscription retail experience.
Square, a major player in the global payments and fintech sector, provides an ecosystem of commerce solutions for merchants of all sizes. James Schonzeit serves as the Head of Food & Beverage at the company. Square has increasingly focused on vertical-specific software, particularly for the restaurant and retail sectors, to move beyond simple payment processing. The platform is designed to integrate front-of-house hardware with back-office functions like payroll and inventory management, positioning itself as a central operating system for modern franchises.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has tracked Square’s aggressive expansion into the food and beverage sector through several high-profile partnerships. Recently, Parsons Bakery Partners With Square Across 48 Locations, demonstrating the platform's utility for large-scale retail bakeries. Similarly, Cascadia Pizza Co. Selects Square as Unified Commerce Platform Across 17 Locations as it also prepares for national franchise growth. Beyond the food sector, Square’s parent company has been deepening its financial services integration, as seen when Block Partners With Nova Credit to Open Cash App Score to External Lenders. Furthermore, the company continues to leverage its ecosystem to drive merchant acquisition, recently reporting that Block Scales Neighborhoods Network: Square and Cash App Drive 10x Seller Growth.
What this means
This expansion signals the accelerating "platformization" of the food service industry, where the ability to unify disparate data streams—from payroll to loyalty points—is becoming a competitive necessity. Legacy point-of-sale providers are under significant pressure as merchants move away from fragmented "best-of-breed" software stacks in favor of single-vendor ecosystems that reduce technical debt. For the fintech sector, the inclusion of AI-driven forecasting in this deal suggests that predictive analytics is no longer an enterprise-only luxury but a baseline requirement for mid-market franchises. The challenge for competitors will be matching this level of vertical integration while maintaining the ease of use required for rapid franchise onboarding.
