Press Release: Causa Prima Secures $20M Seed Round to Revolutionize B2B Invoicing with AI Agents | Featured Image by FF News

Causa Prima has secured a $20 million seed round to launch its agentic AI settlement platform in the United States, tackling the friction in B2B payments. By enabling autonomous agents to negotiate and settle invoices directly between companies, the startup aims to unlock trillions in trapped working capital and eliminate the manual "chase" for payments.

What was announced

The $20 million seed round was led by Base10 Partners, with participation from QED Investors and FJLabs, alongside existing backers Creandum, Kfund, and Borusan Ventures. This funding comes just three months after Causa Prima emerged from stealth with a $10 million pre-seed, bringing its total capital to $30 million. The investment is specifically earmarked for the company's expansion into the US market, targeting large enterprises with complex, fragmented supplier networks.

Causa Prima operates an agent-to-agent platform designed to automate the "seam" between two different companies' finance departments. Unlike traditional Accounts Payable (AP) or Accounts Receivable (AR) tools that focus on internal workflows, Causa Prima’s agents communicate directly with one another. This allows for the near-instant resolution of disputed invoices and the negotiation of early-payment discounts. Currently, approximately 80% of potential early-payment discounts go uncaptured because manual teams cannot negotiate every invoice individually. By automating this interaction, the platform provides a live cash position, allowing CFOs to decide whether to pay early for discounts or hold cash based on real-time liquidity needs. This is particularly relevant in a global B2B market where businesses pay each other more than $90 trillion annually, often following rules written for paper invoices and cheques.

"I spent years building the software that lets suppliers get paid early. It worked. But the last mile was always a person chasing an approval, matching an invoice or writing another follow-up. We built the part that handles that. Finance teams stop chasing and start deciding with full control, capturing millions in early-payment discounts along the way."

The companies involved

Causa Prima is led by a founding team with deep roots in enterprise fintech and security. Co-founder Maex Ament previously co-founded Taulia, a major player in dynamic discounting that was eventually acquired by SAP. He is joined by Henrik Gebbing, Co-Founder & COO at Causa Prima, who previously scaled the German digital asset custodian Finoa to €10 billion in assets under management, and Philip Stanislaus, a Partner at the firm who brings a background in enterprise security from Oak Security.

The investor syndicate includes Base10 Partners and QED Investors, a prominent specialist fintech venture capital firm. Creandum, another participant, is a leading European early-stage venture capital firm known for backing major tech successes. Kfund and Borusan Ventures also contributed to the round, representing a mix of European and strategic capital. This group of investors is backing a platform that aims to modernize the global B2B payment market, which still largely relies on legacy processes and paper-based logic despite the $90 trillion in annual volume moving through the system.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has previously covered the investment activity of the firms backing Causa Prima. This includes reporting on major funding rounds in the AI and accounting space, such as when Rillet Secures $100M Series C at $1B Valuation to Scale AI-Native Accounting ERP. We have also tracked the expansion of AI-driven financial platforms in reports like Félix Secures $200M Series C to Expand AI-Powered Latino Financial Platform and followed developments in global payment infrastructure in Citi and HSBC Back IPID’s $16M Series A to Combat Global Instant Payment Fraud.

What this means

This announcement signals a shift in the B2B fintech landscape from internal process automation to cross-company interoperability. While most AP/AR tools focus on internal efficiency, Causa Prima targets the communicative gap between organizations. This approach puts significant pressure on legacy ERP systems that have historically struggled to facilitate real-time, cross-platform negotiation. The success of this model raises a critical question for the sector: will the future of B2B payments be defined by the rails themselves, or by the autonomous intelligence that sits on top of them? If agents can settle disputes in seconds, the traditional 30-day payment cycle becomes an obsolete relic of the paper era.
