du Pay has expanded its partnership with talabat to become the official digital wallet for the delivery platform’s fleet partners in the UAE. This integration allows thousands of riders to receive wages and manage finances through a single app, highlighting the growing role of telco-backed fintechs in digitising the regional gig economy’s payroll infrastructure.

What was announced

The agreement establishes du Pay as the primary digital payment solution for talabat’s fleet partners, who manage the delivery riders operating across the Emirates. This move transitions the payment process from fragmented systems to a unified digital wallet, allowing fleet partners to streamline disbursements while providing riders with immediate access to their earnings. The collaboration follows a period of strong organic adoption of the wallet among the rider community.

Each rider account within the du Pay ecosystem includes a dedicated IBAN and a free digital debit card. Beyond simple wage reception, the platform offers a suite of financial services including international remittances, bill payments, and mobile balance recharges—the latter of which includes a 50% extra balance incentive on du prepaid recharges. The wallet also facilitates cashback on spending and provides access to cash loans, positioning it as a comprehensive financial hub for a workforce that has traditionally faced barriers to entry in conventional banking.

The expansion follows a period of significant growth for du Pay, which now reports more than one million registered customers. By integrating directly with talabat’s fleet partners, du Pay aims to demonstrate the scalability of its payment channels for businesses managing large, distributed, and diverse workforces. A formal signing ceremony for this expanded collaboration was held at talabat’s office, attended by Roberto Mancone at du Pay and Simonida Subotic at talabat.

"Reaching thousands of riders through du Pay every month demonstrates the solidity of our partnership. Being named talabat's official digital payment solution mechanism for talabat's fleet partners is a strong vote of trust in the experience and reliability we have built together. Our focus is to build on that scale, continue simplifying how riders receive and manage their money, and demonstrate how du Pay can help businesses manage payments across large and diverse workforces more efficiently."

The companies involved

du Pay is the advanced digital financial services arm of du, one of the United Arab Emirates’ primary telecommunications providers. Operating as a telco-backed fintech, du Pay leverages its parent company's extensive infrastructure and customer base to provide mobile-first banking alternatives. The platform has rapidly scaled its ecosystem to serve over a million users, focusing on financial inclusion for the UAE’s resident population through features like digital onboarding, instant credit access, and seamless international transfers.

talabat is the leading platform for everyday needs in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. While primarily known for food and grocery delivery, the company operates a massive logistics network powered by third-party fleet partners. In the UAE, talabat serves as a critical link between merchants and consumers, managing a high volume of daily transactions and a vast workforce of riders. The partnership with du Pay represents a strategic move to digitise the backend of these logistics operations, ensuring that the financial needs of the "last-mile" workforce are met through modern, mobile-centric solutions rather than traditional cash or fragmented bank transfers.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely tracked the evolution of du Pay since its inception. In early 2025, the publication covered the platform's first major milestone in Du Pay Marks First Anniversary With Half a Million App Downloads and Half a Billion Dirhams in Transactions. This growth trajectory continued with the introduction of targeted workforce features, as seen in Du Pay Launches 'Salary in the Digital Wallet' Feature, Empowering Financial Inclusion for the UAE Workforce. More recently, the fintech expanded its credit offerings to provide more liquidity to its users, a development reported in Du Pay Launches Flexi Cash Loan Providing Instant Credit Access for UAE Residents.

What this means

This partnership signals a shift in the UAE’s gig economy, where the financial needs of delivery riders are being addressed by telco-fintech hybrids rather than traditional retail banks. By embedding financial services directly into the employment lifecycle of talabat’s fleet partners, du Pay is effectively capturing a high-frequency user base. This puts significant pressure on traditional remittance houses and smaller exchange centres that have historically dominated the blue-collar financial market. The move raises a broader industry question: as delivery platforms become the primary gateway to financial services for thousands of workers, will they eventually seek their own banking licences or continue to rely on strategic fintech partners?
