Press Release: MoonPay Korea Taps BTQ Technologies to Secure Won-Backed Stablecoin Infrastructure with Post-Quantum Cryptography | Featured Image by FF News

BTQ Technologies has partnered with MoonPay Korea to secure the country’s emerging won-backed stablecoin infrastructure against quantum computing threats. For fintech professionals, this integration of post-quantum cryptography into a full-stack on-chain network—covering issuance to last-mile delivery—signals a shift toward proactive, long-term security standards in regulated digital asset markets.

What was announced

BTQ Technologies will serve as the primary security partner for MoonPay Korea, focusing on implementing post-quantum cryptography (PQC) across its stablecoin ecosystem. MoonPay Korea is currently developing a comprehensive on-chain infrastructure designed for the South Korean market’s won-backed stablecoins. This "full-stack" approach encompasses issuance support, distribution, wallet access, settlement, and currency conversion, extending to last-mile delivery for both merchants and users.

The partnership aims to protect this infrastructure from the potential risks quantum computing poses to traditional cryptographic methods used in digital asset protection. Specifically, BTQ’s QSSN (Quantum-Safe Security Network) technology is intended to provide post-quantum protection for transaction signing, key management, and settlement without disrupting existing user experiences or operational workflows. By working at the infrastructure layer, the companies aim to extend these protections to every participant in the network, including issuers and banks.

A key component of this initiative is its connection to MoonPay’s broader global network, which serves over 35 million customers across 180 countries and 1,500 enterprise clients. In Korea, the regulatory environment is shifting from bank-led pilots toward broader domestic adoption and cross-border settlement. MoonPay Korea’s KRW Stablecoin Consortium already includes Woori Bank, the oldest commercial bank in the country, as its inaugural member. By integrating BTQ’s security at the infrastructure layer, the partners intend to offer quantum-safe protections to all banks, wallets, and merchants connecting to the network, ensuring that won-backed stablecoins are resilient against future computational threats.

"MoonPay's stablecoin capabilities span the full stack, from issuance support through settlement and distribution. MoonPay Korea is focused on delivering the last-mile services that allow Korean partners to put those capabilities to work. As our security partner, BTQ will help us develop a post-quantum security roadmap and evaluate how its technology can support the long-term resilience of that infrastructure."

The companies involved

BTQ Technologies Corp., listed on the Nasdaq and CBOE Canada, is a global technology firm focused on building trust infrastructure for the quantum era. Led by Olivier Roussy Newton, who serves as Founder, Chairman, and CEO, the company specializes in developing cryptographic solutions that remain secure even as quantum computing capabilities advance. The company’s work is centered on securing the digital asset ecosystem, with Youngsuk "Jeff" Choi serving as the firm's Chief Strategy Officer. BTQ’s presence in the Korean market is bolstered by its existing collaborations with local banks and fintech companies, positioning its QSSN technology as a central component of the region's secure digital infrastructure.

MoonPay Korea is a regional arm of MoonPay Inc., a prominent global crypto payments network. MoonPay has established itself as a major player in the digital asset space by providing the "on-and-off-ramp" infrastructure that allows users to buy and sell cryptocurrencies using traditional payment methods. The Korean entity is specifically tailored to navigate the unique regulatory and banking landscape of South Korea, facilitating the integration of the Korean won into the global digital economy. This involves working closely with domestic financial institutions, such as Woori Bank, to ensure that stablecoin issuance and settlement meet local standards while maintaining global interoperability through MoonPay’s extensive international reach, which covers more than 1,500 enterprise clients.

What this means

The South Korean stablecoin market is rapidly becoming a testing ground for bank-grade, regulated digital assets. By embedding post-quantum cryptography at the foundational level, MoonPay Korea and BTQ are addressing a vulnerability that many Western platforms have yet to prioritize. This move places significant pressure on existing stablecoin issuers to justify their current security frameworks against the looming threat of quantum decryption. The involvement of Woori Bank suggests that traditional Korean finance is no longer content with experimental pilots; they are seeking industrial-scale, future-proofed infrastructure. The success of this partnership will likely determine whether post-quantum cryptography becomes a mandatory requirement for institutional-grade stablecoin networks globally.
