Samsung is integrating native stablecoin capabilities directly into Samsung Wallet, selecting Bastion as its licensed infrastructure and custody partner. Launching in late October 2026 for 82 million U.S. users, this move signals a major shift toward mainstreaming digital assets by removing the friction of external apps and private key management for everyday financial transactions.

What was announced

Samsung has designated Bastion as the licensed stablecoin custodian and infrastructure partner for a new suite of built-in features within Samsung Wallet. Scheduled for release during the final week of October 2026, the update will be available across 82 million eligible Galaxy devices in the United States. This integration allows users to hold and send stablecoins directly within the native wallet environment, eliminating the need to install third-party cryptocurrency applications or manually manage complex private keys.

Bastion is providing the regulated custody, stablecoin account operations, and compliance framework necessary to power the service. Through its API-driven infrastructure, Bastion manages several critical functions:

  • Custody and Ledger Management: Bastion maintains the ledger for user balances and executes USDC transfers across blockchain networks.
  • Compliance and Identity: The provider handles user identity verification (KYC), screens blockchain addresses, and monitors transactions for fraud, money laundering, and sanctions risks.
  • Cross-Border Remittances: Galaxy users can send funds from their wallet to bank accounts in more than 60 countries, with Bastion converting USDC into local currency via its network of regulated partners.
  • Security Authorization: Transfers are secured by biometric authentication and device signatures, ensuring that transactions can only be initiated from a registered Galaxy device.

The service operates as a multi-partner ecosystem. Bastion has partnered with Coinbase to utilize Coinbase Prime Vault as the official USDC sub-custodian. At launch, USDC will be the primary supported stablecoin, with blockchain network support provided by Solana and Sui. The announcement also detailed future capabilities, including the introduction of stablecoin payments for online shopping and in-store tap-to-pay functionality, alongside plans for expansion into additional international markets.

"The crypto industry has spent years talking about reaching the mainstream, and this is what it looks like. Samsung is putting stablecoins in front of millions of U.S. Galaxy users. Most of them will never think about custody, compliance, blockchains, or cross-border remittance rails, and that's exactly the point. Financial infrastructure works best when people don't have to see it. We built Bastion to handle that complexity so the experience feels simple and safe."

The companies involved

Samsung is a global leader in consumer electronics and mobile technology. This initiative is led by the Digital Wallet Team within the Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics. The company has consistently expanded its wallet functionality to move beyond simple payment card storage, increasingly positioning the Galaxy ecosystem as a comprehensive digital finance hub. Samsung has been a frequent subject of coverage at FF News, with ten prior reports detailing its evolving role in the fintech landscape.

Bastion is a stablecoin infrastructure provider designed for global enterprises and financial institutions. The company’s operating entity, Bastion Platforms US, LLC, is a registered money services business with FinCEN and holds various state money transmitter licenses. Bastion recently achieved a significant regulatory milestone by receiving conditional approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for a national trust bank charter. This status allows the firm to provide regulated custody and infrastructure with a level of oversight that exceeds standard state-level licensing. Bastion focuses on bridging the gap between traditional financial systems and decentralized ledger technology by providing the compliance and operational layers necessary for large-scale corporate adoption.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed the regulatory and functional expansion of both companies. In September 2026, we reported that Bastion Secures OCC Approval for National Trust Bank Charter to Scale Stablecoin Infrastructure, a move that paved the way for the high-level institutional partnerships seen today. This charter was a critical step in Bastion’s ability to act as a primary custodian for a tech giant like Samsung.

On the hardware side, Samsung has been aggressively updating its wallet capabilities. Earlier in September 2026, Samsung Wallet Introduces Scan to Pay QR Integration with EFT Corp, demonstrating the manufacturer's commitment to diversifying payment methods. Our coverage has also touched on the broader digital asset market, including how firms like Aconomy are expanding access to crypto-powered spending, reflecting a wider industry trend toward integrating digital assets into daily consumer habits.

What this means

This partnership represents a definitive shift in the stablecoin market, moving the technology from a niche trading tool to a background utility for 82 million consumers. By embedding USDC directly into the device hardware, Samsung is placing immense pressure on traditional remittance providers and standalone "web3" wallets. The decision to use Solana and Sui suggests a prioritization of high-throughput, low-cost networks over more established but expensive chains. However, the scale of this rollout will likely invite intense regulatory scrutiny. As stablecoins become a default feature on tens of millions of smartphones, the industry must prepare for a new era where the technology is judged not by its decentralization, but by its reliability as a replacement for traditional bank-led cross-border rails.
