Samsung Wallet Taps Bastion to Bring Stablecoin Payments to 82 Million Galaxy Devices
By Lauren Towner · 12 October 2026

Samsung has integrated native stablecoin capabilities into Samsung Wallet, selecting Bastion as its licensed custodian and infrastructure partner. Launching in late October 2026, the feature provides 82 million U.S. Galaxy users with regulated custody and cross-border remittance tools, signaling a significant shift toward embedding digital assets directly into mainstream mobile hardware for everyday financial transactions.
What was announced
Samsung is embedding stablecoin functionality directly into its native wallet application, utilizing Bastion’s infrastructure to manage the underlying complexity of blockchain technology. Scheduled for rollout in the final week of October 2026, the service will be available to 82 million eligible Galaxy device users in the United States. At launch, the primary supported asset will be USDC, with Coinbase serving as the official sub-custodian through Coinbase Prime Vault.
The integration allows users to hold and transfer stablecoins without the traditional friction of managing private keys or installing third-party cryptocurrency applications. Beyond simple storage, the partnership enables cross-border remittances to bank accounts in more than 60 countries, with funds delivered in local currencies. Bastion’s API-driven suite handles the heavy lifting of regulated custody, identity screening, and transaction monitoring for fraud, money laundering, and sanctions compliance.
Security for the service is anchored in hardware-level authorization. Transfers require a device signature and must be validated through the user’s biometric authentication. The technical foundation for these operations will be supported by the Solana and Sui blockchain networks. While the initial launch focuses on U.S.-based custody and global remittances, the feature set is designed to eventually include online payments and point-of-sale "tap-to-pay" capabilities using Galaxy devices, followed by expansion into additional markets.
"The crypto industry has spent years talking about reaching the mainstream, and this is what it looks like. Samsung is putting stablecoins in front of millions of U.S. Galaxy users. Most of them will never think about custody, compliance, blockchains, or cross-border remittance rails, and that's exactly the point. Financial infrastructure works best when people don't have to see it. We built Bastion to handle that complexity so the experience feels simple and safe."

The companies involved
Bastion operates as a specialized infrastructure provider designed to bridge the gap between global enterprises and the digital asset ecosystem. Its primary operating entity, Bastion Platforms US, LLC, is a registered money services business with FinCEN and maintains various state money transmitter licenses. The company recently achieved a significant regulatory milestone by receiving conditional approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for a national trust bank charter, a move that positions it as a highly regulated player in the stablecoin custody space.
Samsung, one of the world’s largest consumer electronics manufacturers, is delivering this service through its Mobile eXperience (MX) Business. The Samsung Wallet ecosystem has increasingly become a central hub for digital identity, payments, and keys, moving beyond its origins as a simple mobile payment tool. By partnering with infrastructure specialists like Bastion and Coinbase, Samsung is leveraging third-party regulatory frameworks to offer sophisticated financial services without assuming the full burden of custodial licensing itself. This multi-partner approach allows the tech giant to maintain its focus on user experience while operating within the strictures of U.S. financial regulation.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely tracked the evolution of both companies as they deepen their footprint in the digital finance sector. We recently reported on Bastion Secures OCC Approval for National Trust Bank Charter to Scale Stablecoin Infrastructure, a development that provided the regulatory foundation for this massive scale-up with Samsung. Our previous coverage of the hardware giant includes Samsung Wallet Introduces Scan to Pay QR Integration with EFT Corp, highlighting the company’s broader strategy to integrate diverse payment methods into its mobile ecosystem. What this means
This announcement represents the "invisible" phase of blockchain adoption. By abstracting the complexities of private keys and gas fees, Samsung is testing whether the average consumer actually cares about the underlying technology or simply wants faster, cheaper remittances. This move puts immediate pressure on traditional cross-border payment providers, as the integration of USDC into a native mobile wallet effectively turns 82 million smartphones into global remittance hubs. However, the industry must now answer whether the regulatory safety net provided by Bastion’s OCC charter and state licenses will be enough to satisfy federal scrutiny as stablecoins move from niche trading tools to mass-market consumer products.
