OCR Studio and FinOn Partner to Secure Digital Onboarding and Online Payments
By Lauren Towner · 12 October 2026

OCR Studio and FinOn have entered a strategic partnership to combine identity verification with modular payment infrastructure. For fintech professionals, this collaboration addresses the critical friction point between initial customer onboarding and subsequent transaction authentication, offering a path to improve security without compromising the user experience through localized, high-speed data processing.
What was announced
The partnership targets three specific phases of the customer lifecycle: identity document verification, card data capture, and payment authentication. OCR Studio provides the front-end capture technology, including OCR ID-verify, which validates document authenticity by cross-referencing visual fields against machine-readable zones (MRZ), barcodes, and NFC chip data, where supported by the document. This is complemented by OCR BANK-scan, which automates the entry of card numbers, expiry dates, and cardholder names.
FinOn contributes the backend authentication layer. Its 3D Secure Server and mobile SDKs for iOS and Android allow merchants and payment service providers (PSPs) to manage authentication flows. For the issuing side, FinOn’s Access Control Server (ACS) evaluates transaction risk and applies issuer-defined policies to determine when a transaction can proceed frictionlessly or when it requires additional cardholder verification. A key technical feature of the joint approach is the emphasis on local processing; both companies offer deployment options that allow data to be handled on the user’s device or within a business’s own on-premises infrastructure, rather than requiring sensitive information to be sent to external scanning services for recognition. This architecture is designed to reduce manual data entry while providing businesses with greater control over where sensitive information is processed.
"We simplify identity and card data capture while giving businesses full control over their customers’ sensitive data. With FinOn, we see an opportunity to extend these benefits from onboarding to checkout,"
Konstantin Bulatov, Chief Technology Officer at OCR Studio.
The companies involved
OCR Studio is a developer specializing in identity document verification and bank card scanning solutions. The company has carved out a niche in the market by focusing on privacy-centric technologies that run locally on-device or on-premises, reducing the need for sensitive data to leave the client's secure environment. This focus on data sovereignty and the elimination of KYC friction has made them a recurring name in fintech circles, particularly regarding high-security sectors and regional markets with strict data residency requirements.
FinOn is a provider of modular payment infrastructure, focusing on the technical architecture required for secure payment acceptance and card issuance. Their product suite is designed to be flexible, supporting both the acquiring and issuing sides of a transaction through 3D Secure technology and risk evaluation tools. Unlike many legacy providers that rely exclusively on cloud-based authentication, FinOn emphasizes on-premises deployment options, aligning with a broader industry shift toward greater institutional control over authentication environments and data handling. While OCR Studio has an established public footprint in recent reporting, FinOn represents the infrastructure layer that enables these front-end verification tools to function within the complex global payment ecosystem.
What FF News has reported before
OCR Studio has been a frequent subject of coverage, particularly regarding its expansion and technical milestones in the Middle East. FF News recently reported on how OCR Studio Trademarks One-Shot KYC Technology to Speed Remote Onboarding in the UAE, a move aimed at reducing friction in the Gulf region. This followed the news that OCR Studio and Wemik Partner to Enhance Personal Data Protection Across the GCC, further establishing their presence in the regional market.
Technological updates have also been a focus of prior reporting, such as when OCR Studio Launches AI-Powered MRZ Scanning to Eliminate KYC Friction in Real-World Conditions. Additionally, the company made waves with the announcement that OCR Studio to Launch Web-Native ID Scanner for Middle Eastern Banks at Seamless Fintech ME 2026, highlighting their focus on browser-based, high-security banking tools.
What this means
This partnership highlights a significant shift in the fintech landscape: the move away from centralized, cloud-dependent verification toward edge processing and on-premises sovereignty. As global data residency regulations tighten, the industry is under increasing pressure to prove that sensitive personally identifiable information (PII) and card data never leave a controlled environment. By merging ID verification with 3D Secure authentication, these companies are challenging the traditional siloed approach where onboarding and payments are treated as separate security hurdles. The market is moving toward a unified identity-payment thread, placing legacy providers who rely on external API calls for scanning under significant competitive pressure to modernize their data handling.
