ADIB, Marriott Bonvoy, and Visa Unveil Elite Co-Branded Travel Cards in the UAE
27 August 2026

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) has partnered with Marriott Bonvoy and Visa to launch two new co-branded credit cards in the United Arab Emirates. For fintech professionals, this move signals a deepening intersection between Sharia-compliant retail banking and global loyalty ecosystems, targeting the high-value travel segment in the Middle East.
What was announced
The collaboration introduces the Marriott Bonvoy® ADIB Visa Infinite Card and the Marriott Bonvoy® ADIB Visa Signature Card. These products are designed to integrate Islamic financial principles with international travel rewards, allowing cardholders to earn Marriott Bonvoy points on qualifying everyday expenditures. These points are redeemable across a portfolio of over 30 brands and 10,000 global destinations, or can be transferred to more than 40 airline partners.
The Infinite tier card features a limited-time incentive offering up to 200,000 Marriott Bonvoy points and a fast-track path from Gold Elite to Platinum Elite membership status. The Signature tier provides 50,000 points upon activation and Silver Elite status. Both cards include standard premium travel benefits such as airport lounge access, priority late checkout, and enhanced room upgrades where available. Beyond hotel stays, the points can be used for dining experiences and "Marriott Bonvoy Moments," which offer curated lifestyle events.
The cards leverage Visa’s global payment network, ensuring acceptance at over 150 million merchant partners worldwide. This launch is a core component of ADIB’s strategy to expand its lifestyle-driven banking solutions, providing Sharia-compliant products that compete directly with conventional high-end travel rewards cards in the UAE market.
"This partnership represents a significant step in enhancing how we reward our customers and connect with their lifestyle aspirations. By combining ADIB’s leadership in Islamic finance with Marriott Bonvoy’s world-class hospitality programme and Visa’s payment technology leadership, we are creating meaningful value that extends beyond banking and reflects our vision to be a trusted partner in every aspect of our customers’ lives."
Amit Malhotra, Global Head of Retail Banking at ADIB.
The companies involved
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) is a prominent Islamic financial institution headquartered in the UAE. It operates under Sharia principles, eschewing traditional interest-based banking in favor of profit-sharing and asset-backed structures. The bank has recently focused on digital transformation and lifestyle banking to maintain its competitive edge in the Gulf region.
Marriott International is a global hospitality leader, with Marriott Bonvoy serving as its comprehensive travel programme and loyalty platform. The programme serves as a central hub for the company’s vast array of hotel brands, ranging from luxury to select-service properties. Marriott International operates its EMEA commercial interests through a dedicated regional structure to manage its extensive footprint in the Middle East.
Visa is a global leader in digital payments, providing the underlying technology and security for trillions of dollars in transactions annually. As a major player in the co-branded card space, Visa facilitates partnerships between financial institutions and non-financial brands, utilizing its global acceptance network to drive card usage in the travel and lifestyle sectors.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has recently tracked ADIB’s aggressive push into technological leadership, notably reporting on the bank's internal leadership changes such as when ADIB Appoints Pedro Uria-Recio as Chief AI Officer to Drive Vision 2035 Strategy. This focus on future-proofing its operations complements its product expansion. Additionally, FF News has covered Visa’s broader regional and technical initiatives, including the announcement where Visa, _able, and Onafriq Partner to Expand Visa Flex Credential Across CEMEA Markets, highlighting the payment giant's focus on flexible credit solutions across the Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CEMEA) region.
What this means
This announcement highlights the intensifying competition for the "wallet share" of affluent travellers in the UAE. By bridging the gap between Sharia-compliant banking and a top-tier global hospitality loyalty programme, ADIB is putting pressure on conventional banks that have historically dominated the premium travel rewards space. The inclusion of a fast-track to Platinum Elite status suggests a targeted attempt to poach high-frequency travellers from rival ecosystems. For the wider industry, this move raises questions about the future of standalone loyalty programmes; as banks and hospitality giants deepen their technical and financial integrations, the friction between earning and burning rewards continues to evaporate, setting a new baseline for customer expectations in the MENA region.
