Western Union has selected stablecoin infrastructure provider Noah to power its new global Receiver Redirect service. The partnership integrates blockchain-based settlement into one of the world’s largest remittance networks, allowing customers to receive funds as USDPT stablecoins across 200 countries and territories, significantly reducing the cost and time associated with traditional cross-border transfers.

What was announced

Western Union is launching a global stablecoin network designed to modernise international remittances. The new "Receiver Redirect" service allows the company’s 150 million-plus customers to send funds in more than 60 currencies across a network of over 200 countries and territories. The infrastructure for this service is powered by Noah, which provides the underlying on-chain banking network required for treasury management and regulatory compliance.

The service utilises USDPT, a US dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Anchorage Digital Bank on the Solana blockchain. Through this integration, funds sent via Western Union’s half a million agent locations can be collected as USDPT in a digital wallet. Recipients can then hold these assets indefinitely using the Western Union Stablecard, a product first announced in August 2026.

Noah’s role involves managing the pre-funding, conversion, and dispersal of USDPT to recipients while ensuring adherence to local stablecoin regulations. By moving transfers onto stablecoin rails, the service aims to address inefficiencies highlighted by the World Bank, which reports that global remittance flows reach $905 billion annually but are often slowed by bank fees averaging 6% and multi-day processing times. The new system is designed to reduce these delays from days to hours and significantly lower transaction costs.

"The international movement of money through traditional banks is slow, expensive and no longer fit for purpose. Stablecoin opens up a new, faster and cheaper way to move funds globally. Western Union is not just one of the world’s leading money transfer companies, but a visionary in its early adoption of stablecoin. This is a watershed moment for the future of stablecoin and sends a real signal the market has shifted. We're proud to provide the banking infrastructure behind Receiver Redirect, and to power the next era of international remittances for Western Union,"

The companies involved

Western Union is a cornerstone of the global financial services industry, boasting a 175-year history and overseeing more than $100 billion in annual fund transfers. The company has maintained its market-leading position through a massive physical footprint of over 500,000 agent locations, though it has increasingly focused on digital asset ecosystems to remain competitive against fintech challengers. Its move into stablecoins represents a significant pivot for a legacy institution of its scale.

Noah is a specialist provider of stablecoin payments infrastructure, focusing on the "on-chain banking" layer that allows traditional enterprises to interact with blockchain assets. The company provides the necessary licensing and treasury tools for firms to handle stablecoin liquidity without managing the underlying technical complexity themselves. Noah’s selection by a legacy giant like Western Union signals its growing influence in the enterprise blockchain space. While Western Union has a long-standing presence in the FF News archives with 40 previous reports, Noah has rapidly built its own profile with 14 stories documenting its expansion into the infrastructure and licensing sectors.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely tracked the growth of both companies as they navigate the intersection of traditional finance and digital assets. In October 2026, we reported that Noah Secures $38m Seed Round to Accelerate Enterprise Stablecoin Adoption, a move that provided the capital necessary for large-scale deployments like the Western Union partnership. This was followed by news that Noah Secures MiCA and PI Licences to Expand Stablecoin Infrastructure Across the EU, establishing the regulatory foundation for its global operations.

Western Union has also been active in expanding its traditional reach, as seen when dLocal and Western Union Expand Partnership to Launch Remittance Payouts in Africa. These developments highlight a dual strategy of strengthening regional payout capabilities while simultaneously building out a blockchain-based future.

What this means

This announcement represents a significant shift in the remittance market, moving stablecoins from a speculative crypto-native tool to a core utility for the world’s largest money transfer operator. By adopting Solana-based USDPT, Western Union is directly challenging the dominance of the correspondent banking system and the SWIFT-based rails that have historically dictated the speed and cost of global money movement. The move puts immense pressure on other legacy remittance providers and traditional banks to justify their fee structures. However, the success of this global rollout will depend on how Noah and Western Union navigate the fragmented regulatory landscape for stablecoins across 200 different jurisdictions.
