CloudPay Launches MCP Programme to Drive AI-Powered Payroll Automation for Global Enterprises
By Lauren Towner · 8 October 2026

CloudPay has launched its Model Context Protocol (MCP) to integrate payroll data directly into AI and enterprise technology ecosystems. For fintech professionals, this move signals a shift toward treating payroll data as a dynamic asset for broader business intelligence, rather than a siloed administrative function, by enabling secure, automated data flows into complex analytics environments.
What was announced
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a new programme designed to bridge the gap between payroll systems and the wider enterprise technology stack. By providing a secure framework for data connectivity, MCP allows organisations to feed payroll and payments information into AI models, custom applications, and analytics platforms. The primary objective is to move away from manual data handling and toward exception-based payroll operations.
Initial use cases for the protocol focus on three key areas: payroll data accessibility, gross-to-net reconciliation, and AI-powered payroll analysis. These functions are intended to help businesses extract more value from their payroll data while maintaining strict governance, compliance, and control. The launch is part of a broader strategy to create more intelligent, connected payroll ecosystems that allow customers to access insights within the environments where they already work.
London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) is among the first customers to implement MCP, working alongside members of CloudPay’s Customer Advice Bureau (CAB) during the initial rollout phase. LSEG has utilised the protocol to reduce manual touchpoints and improve the flow of information across its technology landscape. CloudPay is scheduled to present further details of the MCP roadmap and its customer innovation strategy at Workday Rising US on October 14th at 11am, featuring Charlotte O'Driscoll of LSEG and Sammy Molinaro of CloudPay. A general release of the MCP programme to all CloudPay customers is scheduled for next year.
"CloudPay's MCP initiative is a strong example of how strategic partnerships can support our long-term transformation goals. As we continue our journey towards exception-based payroll processing, we want to eliminate as many manual touchpoints as possible. MCP opens up new opportunities to securely connect data sources, automate processes and improve the way payroll information flows across our wider technology landscape."
Charlotte O'Driscoll, Head of Payroll and Employment Tax at London Stock Exchange Group.

What this means
This announcement represents a significant shift in how the industry views payroll data. Traditionally, payroll has been a "black box" of compliance-heavy information, difficult to extract and even harder to analyse in real-time. By introducing a protocol that treats payroll as an AI-ready data source, CloudPay is putting pressure on legacy payroll providers who still rely on rigid, siloed architectures. The move raises a critical question for the sector: will payroll data become the next major frontier for enterprise-wide business intelligence? As organisations demand more transparency and automation, the ability to integrate these datasets into broader AI ecosystems will likely become a baseline requirement rather than a premium feature.
