Mastercard and Trip.com Launch Agentic Commerce Solution for AI-Driven Travel Bookings
By Lauren Towner · 16 September 2026

Mastercard, Trip.com, and Network International have formed a strategic collaboration to integrate agentic AI into the travel booking process, utilizing Mastercard’s Agent Suite for Merchants. For fintech professionals, this represents a significant shift toward "agentic commerce," where AI assistants move beyond search to execute secure, consumer-authorized transactions directly within existing e-commerce environments.
What was announced
The partnership centers on the integration of Trip.com’s AI agent, TripGenie, with Mastercard’s global payments network and Network International’s regional acquirer capabilities. This initiative is designed to allow travelers to search, book, and complete purchases for travel services—specifically focusing on attractions and ancillary offerings—through a unified AI-driven interface. The technology aims to transform travel from a fragmented search experience into a streamlined, end-to-end journey where the AI agent handles the complexities of discovery and planning.
The solution is powered by Mastercard’s Agent Suite for Merchants, a toolset that enables businesses to embed agent-powered shopping experiences into their digital platforms. This suite is accessed via the Mastercard Merchant Cloud, an open acceptance framework that provides modular solutions such as advanced fraud protection, tokenization, data services, and authentication. By using this framework, travel merchants like Trip.com can maintain control over their brand experience while leveraging automated consumer-authorized purchases.
The collaboration was showcased at the Arabian Travel Market, marking a global first for the TripGenie agentic commerce application. While the current demonstration highlights the potential for end-to-end AI journeys, the partners have scheduled a phased rollout. A full commercial launch of the solution is expected in early 2027. The project aims to provide a scalable blueprint for payment service providers and financial institutions in the EEMEA region to adopt agent-driven commerce, helping to build consumer confidence in transactions initiated by intelligent agents.
"AI is changing travel from a search experience into a much more intelligent and personalized journey. Together with Mastercard, we are shaping the next generation of AI-powered commerce through Agent Suite for Merchants, exploring how AI agents, operating securely and with the traveler's authorization, can intelligently facilitate travel-related transactions. Ultimately, our role is not just to help travelers find the right trip, but to make their entire journey, from discovery and planning through to booking and payment, much simpler, faster and more connected."
Schubert Lou, CEO of Trip.com.

What FF News has reported before
FF News has extensively covered the strategic movements of these organizations, particularly within the EEMEA and Latin American markets. Recently, we reported on how Mastercard Names Sidney Massunaga as Country Manager to Lead Mexico Strategy, highlighting the firm's leadership changes in emerging markets. In the Middle East, we covered Network International Launches UAE’s First In-Store AED Stablecoin Payment Pilot, demonstrating Network's focus on innovative payment rails. Additionally, Mastercard’s regional efforts were highlighted in Bank Audi and Mastercard to Support 10,000 Lebanese Entrepreneurs via neo Business and their partnership with the Banque du Liban to drive digital payment acceptance.
What this means
This move signals the transition of AI from a conversational novelty to a transactional engine. By moving the "buy" button inside the AI agent, Mastercard is attempting to solve the friction inherent in current travel booking, where consumers often jump between multiple tabs and apps. This puts traditional search-based travel platforms under pressure to evolve or risk losing the customer relationship to "agentic" interfaces. The success of this model depends entirely on consumer trust in AI-authorized payments and the robustness of the underlying fraud protection. If the 2027 rollout proves successful, it could force a broader industry re-evaluation of how payment gateways must integrate with autonomous software agents.
