Press Release: Kipp Acquired by LTVCo-Led Investor Group to Scale Transaction Recovery Platform | Featured Image by FF News

Fintech platform Kipp has been acquired by an investor group led by The Lifetime Value Company (LTVCo), securing long-term financial backing to scale its transaction approval technology. For fintech professionals, this deal highlights a growing focus on collaborative solutions between issuers and merchants to mitigate the revenue loss caused by non-sufficient fund declines.

What was announced

The acquisition provides Kipp with the resources to expand its presence in the United States and invest in its core technology. Under the new ownership structure, Kipp will continue to operate as an independent entity, maintaining its leadership team of co-founders Chanan Lavi, who serves as CEO, and Nir Levy, the company’s CTO. The deal brings together a group of investors with experience in scaling technology businesses and direct merchant relationships.

Kipp’s platform addresses the friction caused by non-sufficient fund (NSF) card declines, a scenario that traditionally results in lost revenue for both merchants and issuers. The platform functions as a real-time decisioning and collaboration layer rather than a payment processor. It allows merchants to pay a predefined premium for specific transactions that would otherwise be declined due to a lack of funds. This enables the issuer to approve the transaction while the merchant recovers a sale that would have been lost. Crucially, the issuer retains full control over risk parameters and the required premium, while the consumer is not charged any additional fees.

The company reports that its save rates range between 20% and 50%, depending on the merchant. From a technical perspective, Kipp requires no integration on the merchant side and can connect to issuer infrastructure either directly or through a processor. To support this expansion, the company has brought on several industry experts, including Executive Chairman Jeff Stiefler, Strategic Advisor Adam Coyle, and Board Member Randy Christofferson.

The companies involved

Kipp is a fintech platform that facilitates real-time collaboration between card issuers and merchants to approve transactions that would otherwise fail. Based at letskipp.com, the company positions itself as a critical layer in the payments stack that helps maintain "top-of-wallet" status for issuers by preventing customers from switching to alternative payment methods after a decline. The company’s leadership and advisory board includes Jeff Stiefler, the former President of American Express, and Board Member Randy Christofferson, who previously served as President of First USA.

The Lifetime Value Company (LTVCo), which led the investor group, is a specialist in data-driven consumer brands. Its portfolio includes entities such as BeenVerified, Bumper, and Ownerly. By operating these brands, LTVCo brings a firsthand merchant perspective to Kipp, particularly regarding the impact of payment declines on customer retention and lifetime value. Strategic Advisor Adam Coyle also joins the fold, bringing experience as the former Chief Strategy Officer of Worldpay and his current role as Managing Partner at Laramie Peak Capital. This combination of institutional payment knowledge and merchant-side experience is intended to drive Kipp’s adoption across the US financial ecosystem.

What FF News has reported before

Kipp has been gaining traction within the fintech ecosystem prior to this acquisition. In September 2024, FF News reported on the company’s inclusion in a major industry milestone in the story FIS Announces 2024 Cohort for Fintech Accelerator Program, Now in its Ninth Year. Being selected for the ninth annual FIS Fintech Accelerator program signaled Kipp’s potential to integrate with large-scale financial services infrastructure. The program is designed to fast-track the development of high-potential startups by providing them with access to FIS’s global network of clients and experts, a move that likely laid the groundwork for the increased industry visibility that preceded this latest acquisition.

What this means

This acquisition signals a shift in how the industry views transaction declines. For years, NSF declines were treated as a binary risk problem owned solely by the issuer. By introducing a model where merchants can subsidize that risk, Kipp is challenging the traditional boundaries of the payment lifecycle. This puts pressure on legacy authorization systems that lack the flexibility to handle multi-party decisioning in real-time. The primary question for the sector is whether this "premium" model will become a standard feature in merchant-issuer relations or remain a niche tool for high-margin retailers. If successful, it could fundamentally change the economics of interchange and risk management in the US market.
