Finzly Achieves RTP Network Certification for Request for Payment to Drive Instant Pay-by-Bank Adoption
By Lauren Towner · 22 September 2026

Finzly has secured technical certification to provide Request for Payment (RfP) functionality to financial institutions on the RTP network, operated by The Clearing House. This development allows banks to offer real-time, bank-mediated payment requests, providing a critical infrastructure upgrade for U.S. institutions looking to integrate instant payment capabilities into their digital banking experiences.
What was announced
Finzly is now certified to offer Request for Payment (RfP) capabilities on the RTP network, following a successful implementation with an initial bank customer. This functionality allows a business or consumer to initiate a payment request through their financial institution. The recipient can then review and approve the request, triggering a payment that settles in seconds. While the RTP network, operated by The Clearing House, is the primary rail for this certification, the resulting payments can also settle via the Federal Reserve’s FedNow Service.
The capability is delivered through Finzly’s "Payment Galaxy," an API-first, unified payment platform. This platform is designed to support multiple payment rails, including ACH, the RTP network, FedNow, Fedwire, and SWIFT. By using APIs, banks can extend RfP functionality beyond their own proprietary digital channels, allowing third-party platforms and businesses to build "pay-by-bank" experiences directly into their own applications. This opens up specific use cases in bill and invoice payments, loan servicing, account funding, and business-to-business transactions.
The RTP network currently reaches more than 1,400 financial institutions. According to data from The Clearing House, the network is responsible for more than 97% of the bank-to-bank instant payment volume in the United States. Finzly’s certification aims to lower the technical barrier for these institutions to adopt RfP, which remains an emerging capability in the domestic market compared to other global geographies.
"RfP gives banks another practical way to help customers get paid and make payments. It puts the bank in the middle of the payment experience, where it should be, and gives customers more choice in how they move money."

What this means
The certification of RfP functionality moves the needle for the U.S. banking sector by addressing the "pull" side of real-time payments. While instant "push" payments have grown, the ability for a business to request funds directly through a bank rail is the missing link for widespread B2B and B2C adoption. This puts significant pressure on legacy bill-pay providers and card networks, as RfP offers a lower-cost, higher-speed alternative with immediate settlement. The industry must now address whether consumers will shift their behavior away from established digital wallets toward these bank-integrated experiences. The success of this rollout will likely depend on how effectively banks can embed these APIs into third-party merchant workflows.
