ScriptSafe Launches 152-Point Pharmacy Certification for Payment Processing and Online Advertising
By Lauren Towner · 22 September 2026

ScriptSafe has launched a new certification platform designed to streamline payment processing for pharmacies by automating license verification against state and federal databases. For fintech professionals, this addresses a high-risk merchant category by providing continuous, nightly monitoring of compliance, reducing the friction and cost traditionally associated with pharmacy merchant underwriting and payment acceptance.
What was announced
ScriptSafe officially debuted on September 15 during the Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding’s annual conference, Compounders on Capitol Hill. The platform is designed to certify pharmacies for payment processing and, in a subsequent phase, for online advertising. The core of the service is a 152-point verification system that cross-references a pharmacy’s credentials against all 50 state boards, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and various federal databases. This process is intended to provide a written decision within 7 to 10 business days, a significant acceleration compared to the six-month timelines common in the industry.
Historically, pharmacies have been limited to two primary certification options. These legacy programs are often characterized by high costs—frequently exceeding $3,000—and lengthy approval processes that can delay a pharmacy's ability to process payments for half a year or more. ScriptSafe’s entry into the market introduces a price point of $1,685 for a full year of coverage, which includes the nightly monitoring of both licenses and digital storefronts. Members of the Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding are eligible for a reduced rate of $1,348.
For payment processors, the system offers a layer of security through continuous monitoring. Every night, ScriptSafe’s team and automated systems check the pharmacy’s website to ensure that prescription requirements are being enforced and that the products sold have not deviated from regulatory standards. This includes confirming that the pharmacy has not dropped its prescription gate or undergone changes in board standing. If a violation or license loss is detected, the platform is designed to flag the processor or advertising platform within hours. This model has already seen adoption; Worldpay has accepted the certification, and ScriptSafe worked directly with Visa to establish requirements for pharmacy merchants.
"ScriptSafe verifies what a pharmacy is licensed to do, against the boards and databases that actually license it. Fast, affordable, and built by people who understand pharmacy and payments."

The companies involved
ScriptSafe is a specialized compliance firm led by founder and CEO Aaron Van Stone. The company operates at the nexus of pharmacy regulation and financial technology, aiming to provide a more efficient alternative to existing, high-cost certification programs. By focusing on the licenses pharmacies already hold and verifying them against primary sources, ScriptSafe positions itself as a utility for the payments industry to manage risk in the pharmaceutical sector. The platform also allows pharmacies to use a single application for both certification and the processor’s underwriting team, reducing administrative duplication.
The Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding (APC) serves as the trade association for the compounding pharmacy profession. Compounding involves the preparation of custom medications, a practice that requires stringent oversight. ScriptSafe’s decision to launch at the APC’s "Compounders on Capitol Hill" event underscores the platform's relevance to specialized pharmacy sectors that often struggle with the overhead of traditional payment underwriting. The endorsement and collaboration with major financial players like Worldpay and Visa further establish the company's role in the merchant services ecosystem. These partnerships suggest that the industry is looking for standardized, tech-driven solutions to verify merchant legitimacy in sectors where regulatory standing can change rapidly.
What this means
The entry of ScriptSafe into the pharmacy certification market highlights a growing demand for real-time compliance in high-risk merchant categories. Traditional underwriting for pharmacies has long been a manual, slow-moving process that creates significant barriers to entry for legitimate businesses. By shifting from periodic audits to nightly monitoring, ScriptSafe puts pressure on legacy certification providers to modernize their speed and pricing. For the broader fintech sector, this move suggests that static compliance is becoming obsolete. The industry is moving toward dynamic verification models where a merchant’s permission to transact is evaluated daily against primary regulatory sources, rather than relying on annual snapshots that fail to capture mid-year license revocations.
