EBANX has executed a major expansion of its senior leadership team, appointing new Vice Presidents and Directors across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. For fintech professionals, this move signals a shift toward aggressive regionalisation as cross-border payment providers race to provide localised expertise for global brands entering emerging markets.

What was announced

The leadership overhaul follows a year of significant scaling for EBANX, which reported a 48% increase in Total Payment Volume (TPV). The company now operates across more than 60 countries, acting as a payment bridge for global brands from North America, Europe, and Asia into high-growth regions. The new appointments are designed to place decision-makers closer to merchant headquarters and operational hubs.

Key hires include James Booth, who joins as Vice President of Commercial for EMEA. Based in Europe, Booth brings 15 years of experience from Verto and PPRO. In Latin America, José Maurício Orsolini Filho has been named Vice President of Product, overseeing Financial Products, Payouts, and Product Marketing. This follows the relocation of Eduardo de Abreu, who moved to Singapore to serve as CPO and regional CEO of EBANX Singapore.

The expansion also includes several Director-level roles across the globe. In the APAC headquarters in Singapore, Marcela Farima joined as Director of Merchant Success and Henrique Simião as Director of Product. In China, Liqian Zhang was promoted to Director of Merchant Success. The Middle East and Africa (MEA) region will be led by Wiza Jalakasi, who takes on an expanded scope as Commercial Lead. In the Southern LatAm region, Juliana Etcheverry stepped into the new role of Director of Issuer Engagement & Growth, while Javier Kaniewicz was named Director of Country Growth for Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay.

"Great leadership stays close: close to the client and to the processing countries, where growth truly happens. The mission of our team is to decode complex, dynamic markets so global businesses can scale fast. By embedding our senior leadership directly within the regions, we are aligning global strategy with localised expertise."

João Del Valle, CEO and Co-founder of EBANX.

The companies involved

EBANX is a global technology company that has established itself as a dominant force in payment services for emerging markets. It serves as a critical link for international merchants looking to navigate the regulatory and technical complexities of Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. The company now maintains a physical presence with teams across 22 countries.

The new leadership team draws from a diverse pool of fintech and technology heavyweights. José Maurício Orsolini Filho joins from a background that includes serving as VP of Operations at the real estate platform Loft, COO at the healthcare booking system Doctoralia, and General Manager of the fintech unit at Didi, the global mobility giant. James Booth arrives with nearly a decade of experience at PPRO, a leading provider of local payment infrastructure. Other companies represented in the professional history of the new hires include Verto, a cross-border B2B payments platform. This influx of talent from established digital platforms and payment infrastructure providers underscores EBANX's intent to consolidate its position as a primary gateway for global commerce.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed the evolution of the local payments landscape, particularly regarding the partners EBANX's new leadership has previously worked with. We recently covered how PPRO and BLIK Partner to Launch Agentic Commerce for Local Payments in Poland. Additionally, our reporting has highlighted the growing importance of regional partnerships, such as when Qliro Becomes Exclusive Nordic BNPL Partner for PPRO to Drive Global Merchant Growth and the significant move where PayPal and PPRO Launch 30+ Local Payment Methods to Boost Global Merchant Conversion. We also documented the bridge between traditional and digital assets in our report on how PPRO and Coinbase Partner to Launch Stablecoin Payment Suite for U.S. Merchants.

What this means

This is a clear signal that the era of managing "emerging markets" from a central Western hub is ending. By decentralising its leadership, EBANX is betting that local nuance—such as issuer engagement in Uruguay or merchant success in China—cannot be automated or handled remotely. The 48% TPV growth suggests their model is working, but the competition is intensifying as global players like PayPal and PPRO also expand their local payment method portfolios. Watch for EBANX to use this new regional structure to push deeper into Africa and the Middle East, where Wiza Jalakasi’s expanded role suggests a major commercial offensive is imminent.
