BankDhofar has launched a new suite of SME Debit and Credit Cards in partnership with Mastercard, targeting Oman’s growing entrepreneurial sector. For fintech professionals, this move signals a deepening of the commercial card market in the Middle East, prioritising automated expense management and digital-first rebates over traditional corporate lending structures.

What was announced

BankDhofar is introducing dedicated SME Debit and Credit Cards powered by the Mastercard network. The product suite is specifically engineered for a broad spectrum of the Omani economy, including self-employed professionals, start-ups, and established small-to-medium enterprises. The primary objective is to transition these entities away from cash-heavy operations toward a digital ecosystem that provides greater transparency and financial oversight.

The cards integrate directly with Mastercard’s Easy Savings programme, a significant value-add for cost-conscious businesses. Through the "Easy Savings Always On" feature, cardholders receive automatic rebates at more than 50,000 participating merchants globally. Crucially for small business owners, these rebates require no manual registration or coupon codes, reducing the administrative burden of cost-saving. Furthermore, the "Easy Savings Specials" platform provides curated discounts on essential operational tools, including cloud computing, digital marketing services, logistics, and software subscriptions.

Beyond simple transactions, the cards grant access to a Business Subscription Portal. This allows Omani SMEs to leverage exclusive offers on digital platforms designed to enhance productivity and collaboration. By replacing cash with these card solutions, BankDhofar aims to help businesses maintain accurate purchase records, simplify supplier payments, and manage business travel expenses with enhanced security and efficiency.

"BankDhofar is strengthening its support for Oman’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with its SME Debit Card and SME Credit Card, powered by Mastercard, offering business owners a smarter, more secure and rewarding way to manage everyday business spending while unlocking exclusive savings and value-added benefits."

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed BankDhofar’s recent efforts to segment the Omani market. We previously reported on how BankDhofar Launches Youth Account to Drive Financial Literacy for Young Adults in Oman, demonstrating the bank's strategy of building long-term loyalty through niche financial products. Mastercard’s regional activity has also been a point of focus, particularly in the corporate space. We covered the National Bank of Egypt and Mastercard Launch USD Corporate Debit Card for Global Trade, which mirrors the current Omani initiative by providing SMEs with better tools for international commerce. Additionally, our coverage of Nubank Launches 'Croma' Segment Featuring 120% CDI Yield and Mastercard Platinum highlights Mastercard's global trend of bundling premium benefits with card products to attract high-value segments.

What this means

This launch is a calculated move to capture the "long tail" of the Omani business market. By focusing on automatic rebates and digital tool subscriptions, BankDhofar and Mastercard are addressing the specific pain points of micro-businesses that lack the procurement power of larger firms. This puts pressure on local competitors to move beyond basic business checking accounts and offer integrated "business-in-a-box" solutions. The real test will be the adoption rate among Omani start-ups; if BankDhofar can successfully migrate these users from cash to card, they will secure a proprietary data stream that makes future credit underwriting significantly more accurate.
