Tap Global Group has appointed Moorwand as the issuer and Bank Identification Number (BIN) sponsor for its new multi-currency Mastercard programme. For fintech professionals, this consolidation of e-money and card issuing under a single principal partner simplifies the technical stack and enables direct spending from multiple currency balances, addressing a major friction point in digital asset and fiat integration.

What was announced

Tap Global Group, which is listed on AIM and OTCID, is expanding its card offering by moving to a multi-currency model. Currently, the Tap card is denominated in euros, meaning any spending in other currencies requires a conversion at the point of sale. The new programme is designed to allow customers to spend directly from the balances they already hold in the Tap app. For example, customers paid in sterling can spend in sterling, while those travelling can spend from a balance held in the local currency.

Moorwand, an FCA-authorised Electronic Money Institution and principal member of Mastercard, will serve as the issuer and BIN sponsor. This agreement extends a partnership established in October 2025, under which Moorwand already provides the e-money accounts within the Tap app. By using one partner for both accounts and spending, the Group gains a single platform on which to build new card features and payment use cases.

The new card programme is also intended to support issuing into additional markets. These card products will be configured market by market to remain in line with specific licensing and scheme requirements. From a financial perspective, the Group generates operating revenue through card interchange and currency exchange, alongside trading fees and Tap Earn income. With a user base of 400,000 customers, the transition to a multi-currency card is expected to grow card spend and subsequent revenue for the Group.

"Moorwand has been an excellent partner to build with. They already power the accounts inside the Tap app, and when we bring them a new idea, they work with us to deliver it at the pace our customers expect. That agility is rare in payments and is why we wanted them behind the card programme as well. A multi-currency card has been the feature requested most often by our customers, and this programme delivers it. It also gives us a stronger foundation for new payment features and expansion into additional markets over time. Card interchange and FX are operating revenue, so every card we put in a customer's hand earns for the Group. This is the card our 400,000 customers should have."

The companies involved

Tap Global Group is a regulated digital finance platform that bridges the gap between traditional banking and digital assets. The company provides users with a single interface to trade, hold, and spend various currencies, positioning itself as a bridge for both retail and institutional users looking for regulated access to the digital economy. It is currently listed on the Aquis Stock Exchange (AIM) and the OTCID under the ticker TAPIF.

Moorwand is an FCA-authorised Electronic Money Institution (EMI) that provides BIN sponsorship and card issuing services. As a principal member of Mastercard, Moorwand acts as a critical infrastructure layer for fintechs, allowing them to launch branded card programmes without the regulatory burden of holding their own principal memberships. The company specialises in navigating the complex compliance and technical requirements of payment schemes across different jurisdictions. By acting as both the account provider and card issuer for Tap, Moorwand provides a vertically integrated solution that reduces the number of intermediaries in the payment flow, a common strategy for scaling fintechs looking for operational efficiency and faster time-to-market.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has tracked Tap Global’s steady expansion of its ecosystem and treasury services over the last year. In August 2026, the company made headlines when Tap Global Launches Digital Asset Income Strategy to Build UK’s Largest Crypto Treasury, a move that signalled its institutional ambitions. This followed the October 2025 Launch of Institutional Bitcoin Treasury Service. The relationship with its current issuing partner was first established during the Digital Banking Partnership with Moorwand in early October 2025. Additionally, Tap has focused on infrastructure connectivity, as seen when Tap Global Partners With tell.money to Integrate Open Banking Gateway in September 2025 to enhance its open banking capabilities.

What this means

This move highlights a growing trend in the fintech sector: the consolidation of the "vendor stack." By moving both e-money and card issuing to a single partner like Moorwand, Tap reduces the technical complexity and potential latency often found in multi-vendor setups. The shift to multi-currency spending is no longer a luxury but a baseline requirement for digital finance platforms. Competitors who still rely on single-currency cards with point-of-sale conversion are under increasing pressure to eliminate those hidden FX frictions. The success of this transition will likely depend on how effectively the platform can navigate the varying regulatory landscapes of the new markets it intends to enter, as the "one partner" model is tested across different jurisdictions.
