Stripe Treasury Launches in Australia to Unify Global Money Management and Payments
By Lauren Towner · 20 August 2026

Stripe has launched Stripe Treasury in Australia, enabling businesses to manage, hold, and convert funds directly within the Stripe Dashboard. This expansion is a critical development for fintech leaders as it eliminates the reliance on fragmented banking relationships and reduces the two-day settlement delays that typically hinder cross-border liquidity and operational speed.
What was announced
The launch of Stripe Treasury in Australia provides a unified platform for businesses to accept payments and pay recipients globally without exiting the Stripe ecosystem. The service allows companies to receive and hold funds in four major currencies—AUD, USD, GBP, and EUR—while offering instant conversion between 10 supported currencies, including HKD, SGD, and NZD. By bypassing the traditional two-day wait for funds to settle in external bank accounts, Australian businesses gain immediate access to revenue, which can be used to pay suppliers and contractors in nearly 100 countries using only an email address.
In addition to the Treasury launch, Stripe is rolling out Stripe Managed Payments this month. This feature uses Stripe’s local entities to process international sales domestically, a move designed to combat the 5 percentage point increase in rejection rates often seen when businesses lack a local entity in the buyer's country. The company also confirmed that later this year, Australian platforms will be able to offer embedded financial accounts to their own customers via Treasury for Platforms, mirroring a model already used by U.S.-based firms like Squarespace.
Further updates include the integration of Metronome’s usage-based billing into Stripe Billing, allowing for real-time measurement of AI token consumption. This sits alongside enhancements to Stripe Radar, which prevented over AU$2.4 billion in fraudulent transactions in Australia during 2025, and now features protections against AI-era threats such as multi-account abuse and token theft.
"Tens of thousands of new Australian businesses and solopreneurs are joining Stripe each month and many have global ambitions from the get-go. These businesses need infrastructure that's able to support them as they expand internationally, which is why we've launched Stripe Treasury."
Karl Durrance, Stripe's managing director for Australia and New Zealand.
The companies involved
Stripe is a programmable financial services company that has become a dominant force in the global payments infrastructure market. It provides a suite of tools ranging from payment processing and subscription management to fraud prevention and international sales support. The company serves a diverse client base, from individual solopreneurs to large-scale enterprises, positioning itself as a foundational layer for the internet economy. In Australia, Stripe has established a significant footprint, powering core financial operations for thousands of businesses and managing over 10 million active subscriptions through its Billing product in 2025.
Metronome, whose technology is now integrated into Stripe Billing, specializes in usage-based billing systems. This partnership allows Stripe to cater specifically to the growing AI sector by enabling precise, real-time billing based on consumption, such as AI tokens. By incorporating these specialized capabilities, Stripe continues to evolve from a pure payment processor into a comprehensive financial operating system. Karl Durrance, who serves as Stripe's Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand, also holds the role of Head of SaaS Platforms, APJC, overseeing the strategic expansion of these embedded finance tools across the region.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely followed Stripe’s strategic partnerships and its influence on the broader fintech ecosystem. We previously covered how TSG and Stripe Partner to Transform Payments into a Strategic Growth Engine for SaaS and ISVs, highlighting the company's focus on embedded finance. The movement of talent from the firm has also been a point of interest, as seen when KAST Appoints Stripe Veteran Connor Fitzgerald as U.S. General Manager to Drive Market Expansion. These reports underscore Stripe's role not just as a service provider, but as a talent incubator and a primary driver of SaaS-integrated financial tools.
What this means
This move is a direct challenge to traditional corporate banking in the ANZ region. By offering instant settlement and multi-currency holding within a dashboard businesses already use for sales, Stripe is removing the "banking friction" that has long protected incumbent banks. The introduction of Managed Payments is particularly aggressive; by using its own local entities to boost authorization rates, Stripe is solving a conversion problem that most banks are too slow to address. Watch for Australian domestic banks to respond with improved API access or faster settlement times, as Stripe is effectively turning the business bank account into a background utility rather than a primary destination.
