Ramp Launches Router.com to Slash Corporate AI Inference Costs by 40%
By Lauren Towner · 20 August 2026

Ramp has launched Router.com, a single API endpoint designed to automate the selection of AI models based on cost and performance. For fintech leaders, this addresses the massive surge in AI spending—which has grown 20.7x since June 2025—by providing granular visibility and controls over inference costs that were previously difficult to measure or optimize.
What was announced
Ramp introduced Router.com, a tool that routes every AI request to the lowest-cost model capable of meeting a developer's specific quality requirements. The platform acts as a unified layer connecting to major AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceXAI. Support for Google’s Gemini is expected soon, alongside open-source models including Nvidia, Kimi, DeepSeek, GLM, and Qwen. These are served through providers like Fireworks AI, with future integrations planned for AWS, Together AI, Baseten, and Crusoe.
The service includes more than 100 optimizations covering model selection, caching, compression, and request handling. It also features an automatic fallback mechanism to ensure reliability if a specific provider fails. To help developers choose the right model, Ramp utilizes "Ramp SWE-Bench," a benchmark built from actual production tasks rather than theoretical leaderboards. Early adopters of the tool have reported an average reduction in inference costs of 40%. Ramp originally developed the technology for internal use three years ago, achieving a 30% cost reduction and 99.9% reliability for its own production traffic. Router.com is live now and will remain free to use through 2026, with new users receiving $26 in free credits, though they continue to pay list price for the tokens consumed.
"AI is the fastest-growing line item at most companies, and the one they can least measure. Router puts every token in one place and sends each request to the model that delivers the right performance at the right cost."
Rahul Sengottuvelu, Chief Technology Officer at Ramp.
The companies involved
Ramp is a corporate card and spend management platform that has increasingly pivoted toward AI-driven financial operations. By launching Router.com, they are positioning themselves as an infrastructure provider for the broader AI economy. The ecosystem supported by Router includes industry giants and specialized startups. OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, and Anthropic, the developer of the Claude model family, represent the high-performance frontier of the market. SpaceXAI provides the Grok models, while Nvidia remains the foundational hardware and software provider for the current AI boom.
The platform also integrates with cloud giants like AWS (Amazon Web Services) and Google, which provide the underlying infrastructure for many financial services solutions. Specialized providers such as Together AI, Baseten, and Crusoe focus on high-efficiency model serving and sustainable computing. By including international models like DeepSeek, Qwen, and Kimi, Ramp is ensuring that its routing layer remains globally relevant as the competitive landscape for large language models continues to diversify beyond Silicon Valley.
What this means
This move signals a shift in the AI market from raw experimentation to disciplined financial management. For too long, companies have defaulted to the most expensive models for simple tasks, leading to the 20x spend explosion Ramp identified. By commoditizing the choice between OpenAI, Anthropic, and open-source alternatives, Ramp is putting significant downward pressure on model providers to compete on price-to-performance ratios rather than brand alone.
The real value here is the integration of technical performance with financial oversight. If Ramp can successfully bridge the gap between the engineering team’s API calls and the CFO’s budget, they become an indispensable layer of the enterprise AI stack. Watch for whether competitors in the spend management space attempt to build similar "intelligent" routing layers or if they concede this infrastructure play to Ramp.
