Dext Payments Launches in Canada: Streamlining Capture-to-Pay for QuickBooks and Xero Users
By Lauren Towner · 5 October 2026

Dext has launched Dext Payments in Canada, marking the first international expansion of its integrated payment solution outside the United Kingdom. By embedding payment capabilities directly into its AI-driven bookkeeping platform, Dext aims to eliminate the fragmented workflows that currently contribute to significant payment delays for Canadian small businesses and their accounting partners.
What was announced
The launch introduces Dext Payments to the Canadian market, specifically targeting businesses and accounting advisors using QuickBooks Online and Xero. The solution is designed to bridge the "invoice-to-payment gap" by consolidating document capture, data extraction, approval workflows, and final fund disbursement into a single interface. This integration allows users to move from a scanned invoice to a completed transaction without toggling between accounting software and banking portals.
The Canadian rollout follows a successful beta phase during which local businesses and advisors processed over $2 million in transactions. This follows the tool's initial debut in the UK in February 2026, where it has already facilitated more than £16 million in payments. In Canada, the platform supports the primary domestic payment rails, including Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), Bill Pay, and Interac. Multi-currency support has also been included at launch, enabling businesses to settle international supplier invoices in various currencies directly through the platform.
The system utilizes AI to convert uploaded invoices into structured data before they hit the ledger. Once data is extracted, users can build single or batch payment runs and route them through secure, customizable approval workflows. Security is managed through a partnership with Airwallex, utilizing Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), fraud shields, and comprehensive audit trails. For accounting practices, the tool is positioned as a value-added service that provides clearer oversight of client cash flow and internal controls.
"Canada is a significant market for Dext, and launching Payments here is an important step in our growth beyond the UK. We've seen how much time and control UK businesses and their advisers have gained by bringing payments into Dext, and Canadian businesses are dealing with the same disconnected processes, on top of some of the slowest payment times tracked anywhere. Payments gives them one trusted place to manage it all."
Sabby Gill, Chief Executive Officer at Dext.
The companies involved
Dext is a provider of AI-powered bookkeeping automation, focusing on streamlining the pre-accounting process for accountants, bookkeepers, and small-to-medium enterprises. The company’s core technology centers on automated data extraction from financial documents, aiming to reduce manual entry and improve data accuracy within the accounting ecosystem.
The payment infrastructure for this launch is provided by Airwallex, a global financial platform that specializes in cross-border payments and financial software. Airwallex holds an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence and is registered in Canada with FINTRAC as a money services business. To support the specific regulatory requirements of the Canadian market, Airwallex also maintains registration through Revenu Québec for customers based in that province. Airwallex has become a central player in the "agentic banking" space, providing the underlying rails for various fintech integrations globally. The partnership allows Dext to offer regulated financial services without becoming a bank itself, leveraging Airwallex’s existing compliance and licensing framework to ensure secure fund movement and fraud protection across the Canadian financial system.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely tracked the evolution of the underlying infrastructure supporting this launch. Recently, Airwallex Ushers in 'Agentic Banking Era' with New AI-Powered Business Accounts, highlighting the shift toward autonomous financial management. This move toward automation is critical, as an Airwallex Study: Payment Friction Costs UK Economy £10.5bn and Stalls Global Expansion, illustrating the high stakes of inefficient payment workflows. To support this global scale, Airwallex Secures $320M to Scale AI-Native Autonomous Finance Infrastructure, providing the capital necessary to expand into markets like Canada. Additionally, the firm has sought to increase its global brand presence, as seen when Airwallex Teams Up with Arsenal FC for Major Global Payments Ad Campaign earlier this year.
What this means
This announcement signals a maturing of the "pre-accounting" sector, where simply capturing data is no longer enough to maintain a competitive edge. By moving into money movement, bookkeeping platforms are directly challenging the dominance of traditional business banking portals and standalone accounts payable (AP) automation tools. For the Canadian market, which has historically struggled with fragmented payment processes and slow adoption of integrated fintech, this launch puts pressure on incumbent banks to improve their API connectivity. The central question for the industry is whether accounting firms are ready to take on the operational responsibility of managing client payments, or if they will remain focused purely on the data oversight role.
