Neonomics has integrated Movitz Payments’ Verification of Payee (VoP) technology into its Nello Pay platform in Finland, with plans to expand the service across Sweden, Denmark, and Norway by 2027. This integration addresses the rising demand for secure account-to-account (A2A) payments as European regulators move to mandate payee verification to combat fraud.

What was announced

The integration of Movitz Payments’ technology into Nello Pay allows businesses to verify that a recipient's name matches their account details before a transaction is completed. This capability has been operational in Finland for over a year, where it is currently utilized by several of the country’s largest payment platforms. The move is significant given the local market dynamics; Pay by Bank now accounts for more than 27% of online payments in Finland.

The system is designed to handle the complexities of large-scale merchant onboarding. While verifying a few payees is simple, platforms managing numerous sub-merchants often face name mismatch errors. To mitigate this, Neonomics has embedded VoP checks directly into its onboarding process and introduced merchant self-checks. When a payee is successfully verified, Nello Pay displays a green "verified" badge next to the merchant name to reassure the payer. If a discrepancy is found, the system alerts the payer before the funds are sent.

Neonomics intends to roll out these capabilities to Sweden, Denmark, and Norway ahead of the EU’s Verification of Payee regulation deadline in July 2027. Beyond standard retail payments, the companies are exploring how this verification layer can support payouts in specialized sectors such as lending, investment, savings, and digital marketplaces, where confirming recipient identity is a regulatory and operational necessity.

The companies involved

Neonomics is a prominent European open banking and Pay by Bank provider headquartered in Norway. The company has established itself as a key player in the Nordic A2A ecosystem, focusing on bridging the gap between traditional banking infrastructure and modern fintech requirements. Alfonso Munoz currently serves as the Interim Chief Executive Officer of Neonomics, having previously held the role of Chief Financial Officer. The firm has recently undergone a strategic refocus to accelerate customer acquisition and strengthen its technical stack.

Movitz Payments is a specialist in payment security and verification technology. The company provides the infrastructure necessary for banks and fintechs to comply with emerging European standards for payee matching. Movitz has recently gained significant market traction through high-profile collaborations, including a partnership with Kinexys by J.P. Morgan aimed at bringing global payee verification to the banking sector. Led by CEO and co-founder Magnus Hedenberg, the firm focuses on reducing the friction and fraud associated with misdirected payments in the burgeoning account-to-account sector.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed Neonomics' expansion and corporate evolution. In late 2026, the company reported that Neonomics Secures $4m Funding as Customer Acquisition Surges 60% Post-Strategic Refocus, highlighting its growth trajectory. This followed the appointment of leadership figures, as seen when we helped readers Meet Alfonso Munoz, Our Newly Appointed Chief Financial Officer at Neonomics in 2025. The company has also been active in the Danish market, where Neonomics and Easypiecy Partner to Streamline Payments for Danish Driving Schools. Meanwhile, Movitz Payments' global ambitions were highlighted when Movitz and Kinexys by J.P. Morgan to Bring Global Payee Verification to Banks Worldwide was announced earlier in 2026.

What this means

This announcement signals that Verification of Payee is shifting from a premium "add-on" to a foundational requirement for any serious A2A payment provider in Europe. By moving well ahead of the July 2027 regulatory deadline, Neonomics is putting pressure on legacy payment processors and smaller fintechs that have yet to solve the "name-matching" problem at scale. The high adoption of Pay by Bank in Finland makes it an ideal proving ground, but the real test will be the cross-border expansion into Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. The industry must now watch whether this level of verification becomes the standard for all digital payouts, potentially marginalizing providers who cannot offer native, real-time payee matching.
