Ecommpay Launches Static QR Code Payments for Custom and Preset Amounts
3 September 2026

Ecommpay has launched a QR Code Payment solution to enable merchants to collect variable one-off payments, such as tips and donations, through a single static code. This development allows fintech professionals to track how payment providers are tackling the "cash-gap" in micro-transactions without requiring merchants to invest in dedicated hardware or complex technical integration.
What was announced
Ecommpay’s new QR Code Payment tool is designed for a wide range of users, from charities and hospitality staff to micro-merchants like farmers' market vendors. The system works by generating a single, reusable QR code that can be displayed on physical signage, printed receipts, or digital web pages. When scanned, it directs the customer to a merchant-branded Hosted Payment Page where they can complete a transaction using any payment method supported by the Ecommpay platform.
A key feature of the launch is the lack of technical overhead; the QR codes are created and managed directly through the Ecommpay dashboard, requiring no development work or integration. Merchants have granular control over the payment experience, including the ability to set amount-selection modes. These modes allow for custom amounts only, preselected amounts only, or a combination of both. The merchant also controls the branding of the pre-checkout page, including the logo, background image, title, description, and action-button text. This ensures a consistent brand experience even for one-off payments. Key features of the solution include:
- Compatibility with all payment methods available through the Ecommpay platform.
- Support for 3DS authentication and AVS checks to ensure transaction security.
- Utilisation of a single reusable static QR code or payment link for use on printed materials, physical signage, or online.
- A customised customer-facing pre-checkout page for entering or selecting payment amounts.
- Full self-service control via the dashboard for the creation, customisation, and deactivation of codes.
The dashboard functionality is limited to merchant admin and operations roles to maintain security and oversight of the payment links. Because the QR code is static, it can remain in place indefinitely, providing a permanent digital touchpoint for businesses that previously relied on cash buckets or physical tip jars.
"We have built QR Code Payments to make it quick and simple to send one-off payments – the digital equivalent to leaving a £5 note tucked under a glass when you leave the table or throwing a few coins into a collection bucket as it passes. Fewer customers carry cash today, so servers and charities can miss out even if someone wants to leave a tip or make a donation. With QR Code Payments, merchants and charities can display a static QR code to help capture these payments."

The companies involved
Ecommpay is an inclusive global payments platform that provides businesses with a single integrated solution for payment processing and card acquiring. The company positions itself as a bridge between complex financial infrastructure and merchants requiring flexible, scalable payment tools. In the broader market, Ecommpay operates alongside major payment networks such as Visa and Mastercard, which provide the underlying rails for many of the transactions processed through Ecommpay’s hosted pages. Both Visa and Mastercard have been central to the global shift toward contactless and digital-first payment methods, which this QR solution complements.
The regulatory environment for such firms in the United Kingdom is overseen by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which ensures that payment institutions adhere to strict standards regarding consumer protection and financial stability. Ecommpay’s focus on providing "no-code" solutions reflects a growing trend among payment service providers to lower the barrier to entry for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that may lack the resources for custom API integrations. By offering a dashboard-centric approach to payment management, the firm competes in a crowded field of fintech providers looking to digitise traditional cash-heavy sectors like charity fundraising and local service industries.
What this means
This launch addresses a specific friction point in the transition to a cashless society: the loss of spontaneous, low-value transactions. While QR codes are ubiquitous in Asian markets for everything from street food to utility bills, their adoption in Western retail has been more fragmented. By removing the need for hardware, Ecommpay is putting pressure on traditional POS terminal manufacturers who have historically dominated the "at-the-table" payment space. The move raises questions about the long-term viability of dedicated card readers for micro-merchants. If static QR codes can reliably handle security and variable amounts, the industry may see a shift where the consumer’s smartphone becomes the primary terminal for all non-retail face-to-face commerce.
