Bottomline Launches Global Pay Connect to Bridge Legacy Finance and Blockchain Networks
By Lauren Towner · 17 September 2026

Bottomline has launched Global Pay Connect, a SaaS platform designed to modernize payment infrastructure for financial institutions. By integrating API-enabled services and blockchain interoperability through a partnership with Chainlink, the solution addresses the urgent need for ISO 20022 compliance and real-time processing, allowing banks to bridge the gap between legacy systems and emerging digital asset models.
What was announced
Global Pay Connect is a next-generation Software-as-a-Service platform aimed at helping financial institutions extend their existing payments infrastructure beyond traditional connectivity. The platform focuses on four core pillars: connectivity, modernization, intelligence, and control. It provides access to major global and domestic networks, including Swift, SEPA, SIC, Bacs, CHAPS, CHIPS, Lynx, and EBICS, alongside various host-to-host connections.
The launch comes at a critical time for the industry, as financial institutions face increasing pressure to support real-time payments and cross-border transparency. Bottomline research indicates that 40% of CFOs view outdated infrastructure as the primary obstacle to adopting real-time payments. Furthermore, only 28% of institutions currently describe their SaaS adoption as modern, API-enabled, and end-to-end. Global Pay Connect addresses these gaps by offering ISO 20022 transformation tools, payment data enrichment, and a "Message Vault" capability for secure data storage.
A central component of the announcement is a Strategic Collaboration Agreement with Chainlink, a market-leading blockchain ecosystem player. This integration allows banks to connect to multiple blockchain networks through a single, network-agnostic model. By using their existing Bottomline connectivity, institutions can manage interoperability between traditional rails and emerging blockchain-based networks. The platform also incorporates AI-enabled insights and real-time visibility to help secure value from payment data while maintaining operational resilience and fraud prevention. The solution is being showcased at Sibos Miami 2026.

Chainlink is a blockchain ecosystem player known for its decentralized computing platform. It provides the infrastructure necessary to connect traditional financial systems with blockchain environments, often referred to as "onchain" rails. The company has become a standard for cross-chain interoperability and data delivery in the digital asset space. Johann Eid serves as the Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs, the development organization associated with the network. Together, these companies represent a convergence of traditional banking messaging standards and decentralized technology, aiming to simplify the path for institutional adoption of digital assets without requiring a complete overhaul of existing core banking systems.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely followed the evolution of blockchain integration within traditional finance, particularly regarding Chainlink’s expanding role. In late 2025, we reported that Coinbase Selects Chainlink CCIP as the Exclusive Bridge Infrastructure To Supercharge Coinbase Wrapped Asset Growth, highlighting the platform's utility in asset tokenization. Earlier that year, the network's data capabilities were showcased when WisdomTree Collaborates With Chainlink To Bring NAV Data Onchain for the CRDT Tokenized Private Credit Fund. More recently, in September 2026, coverage included Virtune Expands Polish Crypto Presence with Launch of Chainlink ETP on Warsaw Exchange and the news that Autheo to Launch THEO Token on Robinhood Chain via Uniswap v3.
What this means
This announcement signals a shift in how the industry views the divide between legacy banking and blockchain technology. By embedding Chainlink’s interoperability directly into a SaaS platform used by major banks, Bottomline is effectively lowering the technical debt barrier that has stalled institutional digital asset adoption. The pressure is now on traditional core banking providers who have been slow to offer native blockchain hooks. If banks can access onchain rails through their existing Swift service provider, the need for bespoke, high-risk experimental projects diminishes. The industry is moving toward a reality where payment messaging is increasingly agnostic of the underlying ledger, whether that be a central bank RTGS or a public blockchain.
