Alchemy has integrated its AgentCard platform with Mastercard Agent Pay, allowing AI agents to execute online purchases using tokenized payment credentials. For fintech professionals, this bridge between onchain infrastructure and traditional card networks represents a significant step in enabling autonomous agents to navigate mainstream commerce while maintaining strict user authorization and security controls.

What was announced

Alchemy, an infrastructure platform for the onchain economy, has launched a collaboration to bring Mastercard payment credentials to its AgentCard tool. This integration allows developers to build AI agents capable of performing complex transactions—such as booking travel, ordering food, or managing digital subscriptions—on behalf of users. The system works by equipping an agent with a dedicated identity and payment toolkit via a single Command Line Interface (CLI). This includes a unique email address, a phone number, a stablecoin wallet for onchain protocols, and one-time-use Mastercard credentials.

These tokenized credentials link to a user’s existing Mastercard account, ensuring that rewards, credit lines, and card benefits remain intact without requiring the creation of new accounts. Crucially, the integration utilizes Mastercard’s "Verifiable Intent" framework. This provides a digital audit trail proving that an agent acted within specific, user-authorized parameters. Issuers and users can implement granular controls, such as spending limits, merchant category restrictions, and geographic transaction boundaries. By combining stablecoin capabilities with traditional card rails, AgentCard allows agents to interact with both emerging decentralized finance protocols and the vast majority of online merchants that still rely on legacy credit card infrastructure. The service is available immediately through the AgentCard website, where developers can provision agents in under a minute.

"AI agents are quickly moving from simple assistants to software that can take action for people. To make that possible in everyday commerce, agents need a trusted way to pay, prove authorization, and operate within clear user-defined limits. By working with Mastercard, AgentCard can help developers bring agentic commerce into the mainstream with the security and reliability people expect from modern payments."

What FF News has reported before

FF News has extensively covered Mastercard’s efforts to modernize global financial infrastructure and expand digital payment acceptance. Recently, the publication reported on how Lenders Cooperative Boosts Commercial Lending Technology with Mastercard Open Finance Integration, highlighting the company's push into data-driven lending. Mastercard has also been active in regional expansions, such as when Mastercard Names Sidney Massunaga as Country Manager to Lead Mexico Strategy. Furthermore, the company has demonstrated a commitment to social and entrepreneurial impact, as seen in the collaboration where Bank Audi and Mastercard to Support 10,000 Lebanese Entrepreneurs via neo Business and the joint effort where Mastercard and Banque du Liban Partner to Drive Digital Payment Acceptance in Lebanon.

What this means

This announcement signals a critical shift in the AI sector from passive assistants to active economic participants. For the fintech industry, the primary hurdle has not been the AI’s ability to find a product, but rather the legal and financial liability of an autonomous entity spending human money. By integrating tokenized, one-time-use credentials with a "verifiable intent" framework, the industry is moving toward a standard where the risk of unauthorized AI spending is mitigated by hard-coded issuer controls. This puts pressure on traditional banks to adopt agent-specific protocols or risk being bypassed by more agile, onchain-native solutions that handle both fiat and crypto transactions.
