ACI Worldwide has integrated intelligent routing for Swift ledger transactions into its ACI Connetic platform, allowing banks to process tokenized deposits alongside traditional payment rails. This move addresses a critical operational bottleneck, enabling financial institutions to scale digital asset transactions using existing infrastructure and controls rather than maintaining costly, parallel manual processes.

What was announced

ACI Connetic, a cloud-native payments hub, now supports the orchestration of payments through Swift’s blockchain-based ledger. This functionality allows banks to originate, route, and manage tokenized deposit payments using the same operational framework they use for traditional payment types. Swift’s ledger, which entered its initial use phase following successful pilots with 17 banks across six continents, enables the movement of tokenized deposits across borders and outside of traditional operating hours.

The integration is designed to solve the "project-based" nature of digital asset payments. Currently, most institutions handle tokenized deposits through dedicated teams and manual processes that exist outside their standard systems of record. ACI Connetic unifies these flows on a single platform, using bank- and customer-defined rules to automatically select the most appropriate clearing and settlement path. This automation helps banks balance speed, cost, and availability without creating a second payment operation.

The technology will be showcased at Sibos, where Jeremy McDougall, Strategic Solution Consulting Director at ACI Worldwide, will lead live demonstrations on Wednesday, Sept. 30. These sessions will illustrate how the platform handles cross-border payments orchestrated through the Swift ledger at scale, focusing on maintaining consistent visibility and operational control across the entire payment lifecycle.

"Digital assets should extend a bank’s payment capabilities, not force it to build a second payment operation. Banks need a practical way to operationalize tokenized deposits at scale using the people, controls and processes they already trust. With ACI Connetic, payments orchestrated through Swift’s ledger can be managed alongside other payment flows within a common operational framework."

The companies involved

ACI Worldwide (NASDAQ: ACIW) is a long-standing innovator in the global payments technology space. The company provides software solutions that enable corporations and financial institutions to manage and facilitate real-time payments, electronic bill presentment, and fraud management. As a major player in the fintech sector, ACI has established a significant market presence, with its technology underpinning the payment operations of some of the world's largest banks and retailers.

Swift is the global provider of secure financial messaging services, acting as the primary infrastructure for international money transfers. Its recent foray into blockchain-based ledgers represents a significant shift in how the cooperative approaches cross-border settlement and liquidity. The collaboration between ACI and Swift highlights the industry's focus on bridging the gap between legacy messaging standards and emerging digital asset technologies.

Sibos, the annual conference organized by Swift, serves as the premier forum for the global financial community to discuss the future of the industry. The event brings together thousands of executives and technology providers, making it the primary venue for launching infrastructure updates like the ACI Connetic integration.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has followed ACI Worldwide’s recent efforts to modernize payment infrastructure, specifically noting when ACI Worldwide Expands ACI Connetic with Cloud-Native Financial Messaging for Real-Time Payments. This expansion was part of a broader trend toward cloud-native solutions that support real-time processing and unified messaging standards.

The publication also tracked the real-world application of the underlying Swift technology, reporting on how DBS and Citi Complete First Weekend USD Cross-Border Payment via Swift Digital Ledger. Additionally, ACI’s broader market research was highlighted in an ACI Worldwide Report: Financial Fragility Drives Massive Shift to Debit and Mobile Bill Pay, which explored how economic pressures are changing consumer payment behaviors and driving demand for more efficient payment models.

What this means

This announcement signals that the era of "blockchain tourism" in banking is ending. For years, tokenized deposits were confined to isolated sandboxes and manual pilots, but the industry is now facing the harsh reality of production-grade operations. Banks cannot afford to maintain parallel teams for digital and traditional assets; the overhead would erode any efficiency gains promised by the ledger. By folding Swift ledger transactions into a standard payments hub, ACI is putting pressure on legacy vendors who still treat digital assets as an exotic outlier. The central question for the sector now is whether existing risk and compliance frameworks can truly keep pace with the 24/7 nature of tokenized settlement.
